Obi-Wan woke slowly. The past few days had been long and tiresome. Senator Amidala’s visit had been both welcome - it was so good to see her again - and exhausting. She was, technically, there on work from the Senate, though Obi-Wan hardly knew how she was managing. She looked ready to give birth to an entire battalion any day, Satine following her around, fairly radiating smug pleasure.

Still, they’d had a peaceful night. Nothing was exploding. There was no reason not to wake up slowly, becoming slowly aware of the hand resting over his stomach, stroking, absently, back and forth. He could feel Anakin’s attention, sharp and awake, despite the early hour. They’d grown close enough that he could pick up the edge of Anakin’s thoughts. He cracked an eye open and said, “Something on your mind, is there?”

Anakin looked down at him - he’d braced himself up on one elbow - and flashed him an abashed smile. He left his hand across Obi-Wan’s stomach, thumb stroking back and forth. “That obvious?” he asked.

“Mm.” Obi-Wan stretched an arm up, curling a hand around Anakin’s shoulder to draw him down into a brief kiss. “Out with it, then,” he said, when Anakin slid down to curl against his side. 

“I was just thinking,” Anakin said, quiet, in the space just for them, in their bed. “I know we didn’t plan on the twins.” Obi-Wan snorted a laugh at the understatement inherent in his words. “But, I think we’ve done - I’ve tried to be a good father. A good husband. Do you think you’d ever want…?”

Obi-Wan rolled to face him, Anakin’s hand sliding over his skin, around to his back, a heavy, comforting weight. Anakin looked so much different, at peace. The shadows under his eyes had gone away. The shadows in his eyes had gone. His hair was constantly a mess. Obi-Wan pushed it back away from his face, and said, “I suppose having a child we planned might be a novel experience.”

Anakin went still, eyes widening a bit. His fingers flexed against Obi-Wan’s skin. “Yeah?”

“Yes,” Obi-Wan said, shifting closer to the warmth of his body. “One. Maybe two more.”

“Maybe two more?” Anakin’s voice had thickened, gone rougher. He brushed a kiss against Obi-Wan’s mouth, soft and teasing.

“Possibly three or four,” Obi-Wan said, as lightly as he could, “there were eight of us in my batch at the creche, you know.”

“Oh, were there?” Anakin kissed him deeper, as though all of a sudden moved with a purpose. “Well, if I’m to give you eight children, we’re going to have to get started right away.”

Obi-Wan half-laughed against his mouth, even as Anakin slid a hand down his back. “You’re not going to manage it yet. My heat isn’t for nearly a month.”

“Mm,” Anakin shifted against him, and half of Obi-Wan’s mind went offline, all at once. “Well, I think we better practice.”
