Hi, I don't know if you remember me but thanks for answering my previous question. I hope you are blossoming.

Last week I watched Barun's latest podcast & as a gift YT & algorithm suggested your podcast's episode to me (At that time I didn't knew it was yours). Nonetheless I heard & it was the modelling and rain sequence one.

Regarding that episode, I was always amused that Aakash didn't even offered his umbrella to Khushi which you also mentioned.

But, I think it was written as it is because it was kind of foreshadowing to Khushi that Aakash doesn't do anything that Arnav don't like & this scene is the reason she believes Arnav's during forced marriage proposal that Aakash will leave Payal at the alter if Arnav asks him to. (Though why would Khushi want a spineless man to marry her sister : Soooo need a FF where Khushi calls Arnav's bluff & herself goes to Aakash & asks him to choose between Arnav & Payal.)

Well i digressed, but do you think that was the reason or was Aakash just a jerk for not offering his umbrella to a female employee of his company.

Oh my I'm so glad you came across my podcast - I was just wondering whether or not I should revive it considering how long it has been and oh my Devi Maiyya... is this a sign?

I'm actually quite interested in your idea because early in the show, we can attribute a lot of things happening as foreshadowing (because of the nature of the medium).

And I think you're kinda correct. Akash does not defy Arnav, even when it would make sense to. But it's also because he feels an extended empathy and sense of debt to Arnav. As he tells Khushi later, he understands her anger but in his eyes, and in reality, her brother has gone through terrible to be what he is and being terrible has saved the family.

Like I also feel Akash feels Arnav gone through enough, that man is allowed to sit through his pain. He also is the only one who does not pressurize Arnav to be perfect. Or good. Or anything at all. He lets him be. Which is precisely why Arnav shares everything with Akash.

(Unlike the rest of their family who constantly wants something from Arnav, Akash is the one with whom Arnav can rely on. Hence Akash knows about La and when he's kidnapped he asks Akash to take care of his family. He knows Akash can, and Akash will).

UGH I WISH THEY EXPLORED THIS MORE IN THE SHOW.

But yes, I think these little moments all build up to make Arnav's threat and words of "Akash never defies me" a real threat for Khushi. Which is why we all don't exactly have biggest complaints of Khushi going ahead with Arnav's plans on the night of their marriage. Arnav's threat is very real.

Now coming specifically to the umbrella thing... there could be two things. Either the writers wanted to maintain that Khushi believes Akash is just an employee so for her it makes sense that an employee cannot defy her boss hence Akash seems like a jerk for not giving the umbrella-

OR

-Akash knows what the situation is. And giving umbrella to Khushi might make Arnav react worse. He's being a bully, Akash knows it. And it might not do good for Khushi if Arnav knows that his own family is choosing to be kinder to the girl who openly yelled at him. It won't be good for Khushi. So he helps in the best way possible - personally arranging a ride for Khushi home. Giving her courage.

And Akash is smart enough to not support Khushi during the photoshoot in the sense of "Bhai listen to the poor woman" - rather Akash taps into Arnav's logic. Clearly the Indian saree works.

It works in favour of AR being an Indian brand.

And Khushi happens to be saying something that makes sense to him from an indifferent pov. (Had Akash known about exactly what happened at Sheesh Mahal, he wouldn't have been this easy on his brother though).

Also Akash and Khushi share their kindness in common, which is why Khushi finds it easier to defend Arnav when Buaji learns the whole truth post marriage and tells Khushi how Arnav took advantage of her.

I digressed too - lol but like totally possible Khushi saw the loyalty Akash had for Arnav and hoped the same loyalty would extend to Payal?

Which like initially was the case - he was defending Payal from his mum since day one and was ready to walk out of the family he very very much loved because of his mother's antics (post marriage Akash is forgettable).

Hello, jwb 👋🏻 I had a question about Akash and Arnav's dynamic. Akash i think really loves Arnav and idolizes him. He accepts everything about Arnav without question, and is very open about his feelings.

Arnav also loves him obviously and it was evident in how quickly he took responsibility for fixing Akash and Payal's marriage. After Khushi's birthday, there's a scene where he asks Akash how his relationship with Payal is being affected by everything. So obviously he cares for him.

I was just curious what akash's reaction would be if he ever found out his bhai had apparently threatened breaking up his marriage to blackmail Khushi. Even though he most likely wouldn't have done that, it could still be heartbreaking for Akash. When manorma opposed their marriage, Akash was quite confident that Arnav would always support him.

How would that reveal affect their relationship? Or would Akash understand that it was an empty threat, that bhai wouldn't ~actually~ do something to hurt him like that?

Thank you for asking about this equation because it was genuinely underrated with a lot of potential.

Akash was the perfect foil to Arnav. And Arnav deeply cared about Akash - you know Akash wasn't hired just because he's the brother, it's because Arnav truly sees the best in Akash.

And it comes from a place of brotherly love.

So let's breakdown and answer this line by line.

He accepts everything about Arnav without question,

I don't think that's the case. Akash is a very rational man and I think apart from his own mom - he's doesn't quite love anyone without a reason.

And of course, Payal (but she is a lovely woman).

The blind trust that Arnav has, of Akash's, is very much earned.

Akash does not love/respect/obey his brother out of kinship. He has seen how his cousin has gone through the worst and stood out the strongest.

Arnav just hasn't survived a trauma, he has ensured that no one in the rest of his family, for unto 3 generations, do not face the economical helplessness that Arnav did.

The world was not kind to Arnav, so Akash can make peace with his brother not being the sweetest best. He cares for his family and for Akash he's just a good enough man - and that's more than everything for him.

Akash does know, and believe, that Arnav might take cruel decisions to prevent worse things incoming.

How would that reveal affect their relationship? Or would Akash understand that it was an empty threat, that bhai wouldn't ~actually~ do something to hurt him like that?

I think it depends on when Akash learns the truth and how. If it's within the early days of the marriage, Akash would want to know reason.

And it's very interesting to note what he tells Payal. Because that's the rationale he puts to this marriage.

Every story has another side (Akash, imo, knows that not everything can be said always, at all times)

He knows Arnav. With regards to Khushi, yes, Arnav has been unpredictable - which initially amused Akash. But for a decision this big? Akash trusts Arnav's instinct here. Because he's almost always right.

Arnav does not do anything without reason.

So two things would matter here for Akash. One, being reduced to a bargaining chip. Two, knowing Arnav crossed all lines of civility by forcing a marriage.

I think he'd call out Arnav's bullshit. He just wasn't stopping Khushi and Shyam from being together. He wants Khushi. Loves her. What he did was act born out of betrayal of love and the crime he presumed Khushi committed.

Above all, Arnav could have told him the truth. Because if Payal was the sister of the woman who ruined Anjali's life - Akash would have no interest in marrying her. Period.

So I do think for sometime things would be tough between the two brothers because Akash would've hated being put in the dark, not being trusted, and then being used as a bargaining chip.

Hi jwb, it is a nice thought to sort the blog(as it requires lots of time and patience) thank you for doing that. My ask is when mami bullies payal in havan episode & ruckus she creates about payal's broken alliance burns my blood, but i always think why doesn't akash straight forwardly oppose his mother instead he consoles buaji and garima that "Bhai is there so nothing goes wrong", why he doesn't take stand for payal, upto what extent a brother-in-law can interfere in his/payal life.

Akash is very non confrontational - to a point where it’s his fatal flaw! (In fact even Akshay, the actor who played Akash, was frustrated with Akash’s silence and spinelessness)

I think Akash was supposed to take a firm stand slowly in the relationship but I don’t think they ever developed Akash enough as a character to see him deal with conflict. In my headcanon he grows a spine right at the end when he sees his mother misusing the fact that Khushi Payal hid the truth to abuse them.

Arnav has a lot of power in the family. Check out one of my previous answers about generational wealth and dialect! Arnav is the “head” of the house. Everyone is living in the house ARNAV bought.

He’s simply not a brother in law.

(I try to headcanon that Akash doesn’t realize the extend his mother taunts Payal and I have an eternal problem with the way Mami treats Khushi and Payal tbh)
