Name: Alistair Charles Algernon Percy
Title:11th Duke of Northumberland
Thoughts on the monarchy: The royal family secretly bothers him. Makes him wonder about where his loyalties should lie, however closely tied he is with the Firm. On the contrary, he thoroughly supports the notion of a monarchy, but one that the people could live harmoniously with. He secretly is beginning to wonder who could be a better fit on the throne.
How is your character viewed by the press? : A peculiar man- when it came to the press- with a secluded life, whose affairs should never come to public light. He’ll be cold, he won’t smile for your photographs. He has far more important things to do, than speculate on the flurry.
- Born Lord Alistair Percy, the heir of the late Hugh Percy, Duke of Northumberland grew up in the second largest inhabited castle in England: Alnwick Castle was his playground, his family seat, the web of intricate ceilings inspired by Venetian splendour was the subject of his midday daydreams, stuck in the silence of Northumberland. Though the Percy family spent occasional seasons in their Syon House down south, socialising with only those of a level who could truly understand them, Alastair grew up selfish– accustomed to the vast amount of space he could claim as his own, the acres of land he’d been told that he would need to make prosperous one day for the family’s sake, when the time came. Stubborn, though not loud, eloquently cold, smug. Charming, should the time permit. Born with a smirk, eyes that wouldn’t flinch, that seemed to glimmer with mischievous glee by just boring into another. - Educated at Eton, Alistair’s fondness for the more exhilarating challenges assured him talent within several extra curriculum: fencing, equestrian, polo, tennis, rugby. One strength, in particular, was trading. Convincing peers to trade items, landing him in the matron’s office more than he could count. He never forgot his debts, nor the value of making a beneficial deal. He has an eye for profit, and has earned a terribly blunt demeanour throughout the years.
- His father passed unexpectedly during Alistair’s first year at Oxford, during a tumultuously rough-weathered autumn. Still a young man, barely a shell of himself - Alistair succeeded his father, becoming the 11th Duke of Northumberland.
- After graduating from Oxford, Alistair’s affairs moved to looking after his duchy. Still, his knack for trade and passion for the exhilaration of an auction brought his efforts to Sotheby’s auctioneer. Soon, he became involved in monumental deals for priceless relics: from antiques, to jewellery, to assisting in securing estate sales from those he’d come across. Though his priority is maintaining the duties bestowed upon his title, Alistair indulges in at times less-than-honourable pursuits. He’s been known to throw sinful parties for the elite. And believe me, he’ll look down his nose at you, should you come across his path.
