Art
This is a really interesting one, because Jamie doesn’t truly enjoy a lot of things, but she has a genuine appreciation for art. I can’t even say why? It definitely goes beyond her skills as a restorer, though there is probably an element of narcissism in her enjoyment of her career. In England, she rose to be one of the most respected art restorers in the field, and that definitely feed her ego. As much as I talk about Jamie’s lack of deep emotions, and true empathy, she also thinks very highly of her own skills, and is a true narcissist.
But, besides that, I think her enjoyment of art is also about the way she’s able to accurately capture the world, as she sees it, in paint, or pencil, or pen. Jamie is very literally observant, but she doesn’t feel things deeply, and her artwork gives her a chance to record the world as she sees it -- full of objects and people, with nothing else. Unlike with creative writing, there is no need to imagine another point of view, or explore emotions. With the kind of art Jamie does as a hobby -- mostly landscapes, though occasionally drawings of people -- what you see is what there is. They are accurate renderings of the world around her, and I think that’s why she enjoys doing them.
