oh yeah, and then answer every character question that has a 1, 3, and 4 in it.
1. What’s one experience your character had that made them very afraid?
Crack. The sound of the ice beneath his feet. It was too early for it to be so thin! All around him was more ice, the shore quite a ways away. The large Xaela man stood completely still, listening carefully to the sounds around him. He didn’t dare move. All that stood between him and freezing to death was some apparently very thin ice. This couldn’t be how it ended–not like this, and not now. He had to get home. To his family. To Mösarnai. Batugan uttered a quick prayer and carefully shifted his weight, taking a slow step backward. Crack. Another step. Silence. The hunter would not push his luck today, and continued his slow retreat shoreward. The icy depths would not claim him today.
3. What’s one skill your character really wishes they had?
Batugan really wishes that he was more dexterous–for better baiting, writing, and just about anything requiring a certain degree of finesse. Though he’s quite skilled with cutting hides, that’s just about as far as precision goes for him.
4. What is their favourite food? Their daily diet?
Batugan loves soups and stews of any kind, though he prefer the thicker, heartier stews to the more brothy ones. Typically back home, Batugan ate a lot of dried foods like jerky that could travel well for long hunts. Stews were also common. In Eorzea, he’s not very picky and will eat just about anything–he’s having a lot of fun trying new foods.
10. Your character has discovered that they only have a week left to live. What do they do with that time?
Batugan would spend as much of that time as he could with his family, and set about making sure the things he has are passed down to them. He would do as much as possible to lessen the burden of his passing. And cry a lot.
11. What was something they struggled with greatly and how did they overcome it?
Batugan struggles a lot with his grief and his guilt regarding the loss of Mösarnai and his home. He hasn’t really overcome it at all, but he tries to cope by keeping busy.
12. Your character has the opportunity to have one wish granted. Would the wish only benefit them, someone else (one person or multiple), or everyone? And what would that wish be?
Batugan’s wish would be that the raiders never came to his village, so that everything could have stayed the same. It would benefit most of, if not all of his tribe. It would save a lot of lives and grief.
13. Does your character have anyone that they really care about, to the point that they would give their life for them? If so, who are they and what is your character’s relation to them? If not, do they wish they did? Is there anyone they wish they could build such a relationship with?
Batugan would rather die than see his twin sister Altan'Unegen, or little brother Shoukai come to harm. He adores his siblings and will do everything he can to keep them safe and happy, feeling a great deal of responsibility for both of them.
14. Do they have someone that they consider to be a family member, even if they’re not related to your character by blood? What was one of your character’s favourite moments with them, and what makes them so special to them?
Little brother Shoukai. Though Shou was adopted, Batugan sees him as family no less than he does his own twin. Shoukai came into Batugan’s life when he was still fairly young, but having a little brother was really exciting for him. Shou quickly became a dear friend to him. Batu fondly remembers learning Shou’s way of fishing and going on long fishing trips with him.
15. Does your character have a deep and/or dark secret? If so, what is it?
Not really. Batugan lived a really simple life before the raids happened.
16. What is their aspiration? Their goal? Their purpose? What makes them want to wake up everyday and keep on going?
Batugan’s goal is fairly humble. He simply wishes to build a home somewhere for his family, and eventually his future family. He just wants to find, or make a place for himself and the ones he loves in this strange new country. Somewhere quiet where he can hone his crafts, but not so far away that he cannot go sell his wares without difficulty.
17. How was their childhood? Did their parents treat them fairly? Did they have any really good friends?
Batugan had a fairly ordinary childhood for someone in his tribe. He grew up following his father around, learning all of the basic skills he needed. He also got to spend a lot of time at play in the snow with the other kids, and his sister. Batu’s parents were quite fair and loving, as in the harsh conditions of the north, children are absolutely treasured.
18. Does your character believe the ends justify the means? No matter who they have to step on to reach their goals?
Batugan is careful with how he achieves his goals for fear of retribution or bad karma. He is very afraid of revenge, knowing how the other tribes were always destroying one another.
19. Have they ever lost a loved one? What happened to them, and are they the same as they were before they lost them?
Batugan lost the love of his life, Mösarnai in a raid on their village. Mösarnai was his treasure and he loved her dearly, and fully intended to eventually marry her. His plan was to propose in the coming spring, but the raids came before that, and she perished trying to flee with his little brother, Shoukai.
Though he tries really really hard to hide it, Batu really is not the same anymore. He tries his best to smile and work through it, distracting himself with everything that needs doing to rebuild, but there is an overwhelming, and profound sorrow that hangs over him as a result of her death. His mourning is quiet, but clear to anyone who looks. He called her his tundra rose, and now keeps roses by his bed. Another ritual of his is to scatter rose petals to the sea, as he feels that it still connects them even over great distance.
