Noticing the weird trend where a particular, popular, negative take with snappy or unusual wording will take off and Tumblr people (and honestly non-tumblr people - maybe just social media people?) will start practically quoting it here and on Twitter and Twitch and elsewhere as their verbatim opinions.

Probably happens with less of a linguistic signature often enough, too, but it's been noticeable lately. I will not be providing examples cuz I'm too lazy to get evidence.

Feeling a compulsion to remind people that there are alternative and less extreme opinions than the ones that become popular on social media. It's ok not to make "ideologically correct and theoretically informed" your entire shtick, especially when half of what everyone says online is "judgemental opinion based on info that is factually incorrect."

So I'm listening to the latest KUEC, and Ursula winds up telling this story about her mom's prolapsed uterus. Which, because it's Ursula, is both disturbing and... oh god, I really do have to go for the pun here... hysterical. ^_^

Um. Anyway. Not my actual point. So the conversation turns to the fact that Ursula has very little filter, and has discussed on her blog such topics as depression meds, breast cancer scares (boob-clams!), and the aforementioned prolapsed uterus. And Ursula mentions, as she's mentioned before, that sometimes she gets messages from people thanking her for being so open about things that are not usually discussed, or not in such frank and hilarious terms. :D

And so *anyway*, since for obvious reasons I'm currently pondering How I Do Internet in more conscious detail than usual, I am reminded -- away back around the time I first joined Tumblr, I read through Ursula's whole LJ archive. (Copperbadge's, too, and some other people's. I had the depression brain.) And although at the time I knew like ten people on here, that really influenced the way I blog, that kind of "so here's how my day's going and it's ABSURD" sort of thing. I like reading that sort of a blog, and you know, apparently other people do too. ^_^

Obviously it's got its drawbacks... ;P But overall, I think I'm happy with it. I'm probably not gonna wind up as a Personality like Sam or Ursula, because they produce actual books and shit on a semi-regular basis, but you know, give it another ten years. I've got the unpredictable life and the writing ability, anyway. ;-)

Just a question, how did you get your master list to go down a line in your bio?

Hi, Nonnie! I’m almost positive you can only get this to happen if you’re editing your description on a PC, it doesn’t work on mobile. You have to go in to edit your theme, then in your description box, you have to kind of go into HTML mode. Use

and

before and after the line you want to drop down. 

Example: (it’ll look like this in the description box)

second line of description

I want to use my real name blog (or maybe another side blog) to blog about something vaguely worthwhile on a regular and consistent basis. But I 1. have too many interests that might be worth making a brand out of, and 2. have too little confidence that I know or care enough about any of those things to keep it going long-term.

Does anyone else have this problem? More importantly, has anybody else who sees this _solved_ this problem before?
