I found out about this issue (fandom thing) a bit late, but from what I see, it does not seem like it will grow any bigger.
I looked into some of the past debates in this fandom, and the AdBell discussion that happened about a month before I joined seemed much more intense. By comparison, the current topic does not feel like it will last as long or carry the same weight.
First of all, the fandom is too small for anything like a 'war' to happen. Since January, I already have noticed that far fewer people appear on the dashboard compared to last year.
Also, the shrinking of the fandom is partly the responsibility of the IP itself, rather than individuals. From what they have officially posted on social media, it does not look like they have any plans to develop more Call of Duty for now. Naturally, that means fewer fans and less anticipation for the game.
[Correction] the above was written based on the announcement made in December last year. After checking the latest articles, it appears that they are currently developing a game with a completely new cast of characters. That means the fandom for the existing characters can only shrink.
I believe the debates and divided opinions about Black Ops 7 have also contributed to the shrinking of the fandom.
Honestly, I do not want to pay too much attention to issues like this, but in past fandoms I was part of, things were far worse. In those cases, there were even problems involving money or physical violence, which made them much more serious.
In my view, this issue feels more like a struggle for control. I think everyone should simply be active in their own way and respect each other. New people will always come, and I just hope things go smoothly with them.
