Forest Draconidaes

These dragconidaes have a soul connection with plants. They are the only type where all of them have striping patterns. along their scales. They come in varying shades of greens, browns and yellows with the stripes being lighter in color. The stripes act as additional camouflage and break up the outline. The tufts on their tails have a similar texture to grass. Their spines have the same shape as rose thorns and are just as sharp. They are often used to catch small prey animals. While there legs are shorter than most other draconidaes they are incredibly fast runners. They aren’t much for flying as they have very small wings, however they can glide for short distances. They have longer specialized claws for tree climbing as well.

Forest draconidaes are most often found up in the treetops. They love being high up and have a specialized treetop travel method called tree gliding. They jump from branch to branch using their wings to glide and catch branches with their tails to swing up and glide. They are excellent jumpers and climbers While they usually love to live in forests they can survive on the plains and savanna environment.

It is common to see flowers woven into mains and tail tufts. If you are give a flower crown, necklace or bracelet it means that you are considered a friend however if you are presented with a single flower (usually incredibly beautiful it means someone has a crush on you.

Forest draconidaes do have slight scale shifting abilities but not to the point that sky draconidaes do but it is still something to be wary of. There are also some that have a venomous bite. It is not a universal trait.

Draconidaes strengths and weaknesses.

Strengths

All draconidaes are stronger within their respective element(s) but therevare some generally things that strengthen them.

Absoring sunlight increases every type of draconidaes physical strength and can aid in the ATP generation process.

Absorbing moonlight stimulates cellular regeneration. It has been known to by pass the scarring step in healing and wounds healed with moonlight heal with little or no scars.

Shadow and moon draconidaes are stronger at night

Sun draconidaes are stronger during the day and during summer.

Ice draconidaes are stronger in winter.

The solstice and equinox affect different draconidaes in different ways.

Weaknesses

Electricity. Even thunder draconidaes aren't immune to this. It just hurts them less. It bypasses the scales and can easily paralyze, cause seizures, comatose or even kill draconidaes depending on the strength of the electricity used.

Temple: the temple is the weakest spot on a dragon skull. One well placed blow will knock a draconidaes out quickly.

Scruff: if a draconidaes is scruffed like a cat their body will go limp. This even happens in adults.

Face and paw scales: while most of the body scales are as strong as diamonds, the face and paw scales are much softer like a snakes.

Riders seat: a massive bundle of nerves located in the shoulder are between the wings and neck. While it is protected by hard scales it is much more sensitive to touch.

A sword forged with the blood of a dragon. All draconidaes warriors have swords forged with their specific blood so it is blood bound to them. They are the only one that can hold said sword without being hurt. The only way to bypass this is to have a rider's bond with the draconidaes. There are only a few swords that don't have the special blood bound protection, the most famous being excalibur.

Body language of dracondiaes

It is not uncommon for dragons to use body language to speak to one another rather than words. Note: that signs from multiple parts of the body should be taken into account when determining what a dragon is ‘saying’

Wings

The neutral position of wings is relaxed against the body

Held up out of the neutral position: I’m making myself look bigger than I am, pride, dominance, sometimes trying to hide fear

Held out to the side and no intent to fly: I am protecting something/someone

Held tightly against the body: fear, submission, Can also be trying to warm ones self

Wing nudges: reassurance

Hug’s with wings: I care deeply about you, I love you

Ears

Neutral position of ears is set back at around a 45 degree angle

Perked up and forward: excitement, interest, I’m listening to you,

Perked and swiveling: I hear something and I’m listening for its source

Flattened against head: anger, fear, pain

Laid back but not flat against the head: unsure, submission, protecting ears

Neck/head

Neutral position is relaxed

Lowered: aggression, fear, submission

Raised: Pride, dominance

Bumping head against you: reassurance, are you alright?, I’m right here, I care about you

Touching your forehead against yours: sign of complete trust as there is a direct mind link with minimal defense that can be accessed through touching your hand to the center of the forehead or the center of your forehead to theirs.

Tail

Neutral position is slightly angled down from the back and can be gently swaying back and forth

End of tail flicking: irritation, anger

Whole tail swinging back and forth quick her than neutral: play, anger (depending on the speed and strength)

Held low/ close to the body: fear, submission

Wrapping a tail around your tail or body: I love you

Tongue

Neutral is sitting in the mouth

Flicking in and out: irritation, sometimes tasting the air

Licking: Playful, I like you, I’m protective of you

Teeth

Neutral is unseen

Smiling with all teeth showing: mischief, pride, I want to look friendly but remember I have these and will hurt you if I want to, not usually a good thing

Natural smile (shows less teeth: friendly

Barred: aggression, I’m trying to scare you away because I’m scared of you

Scales

Neutral position is flat against the body

Rattling: irritation, anger

Raised: I’m trying to look bigger than I am, I am trying to feel safer (sharp points on the end of all scales. They also have sharp edges on either side of the point)

Eyes

Neutral is a more dilated rounder reptilian pupil

Glowing: I’m channeling powerful magic, I’m trying to freak you out

Pupils constricted to look more slit reptilian: More animalistic instincts are active so be cautious, anger, fear

Grey eyes are the key sign of hypnosis or mind control. This could be a reason for odd behavior

Overall body

Neutral is a relaxed look

Trying to look smaller: submissive, fear

Making ones self look bigger: dominance, trying to scare something off, pride

Effects of overusing powers

Over time I've noticed that it is possible to overdo it with your powets and its not just me. When draconidaes get upset the effects of their powers get bigger and it draws more from them. Even dimension jumping on your own the first few times is enough to overdo it. Overuse of powers has different consequences for each individual.

Fatigue, muscle aches, headahes, loss of feeling through the body, and temporary inability to shift form are the most common. Less common include loss of temporary hearing, temporary blindness (which is what I get), and loss of speech. You can experience more than one consequence at a time but the cure is the same for all of them. Rest your powers. Resting your body won't hurt either.

Draconidaes illness

While draconidaes do normally have stronger than normal immune systems we can contract human illnesses too. There are several illnesses that only we get.

Sun sickness: A temporary illness caused by the absorption of to much ultraviolet radiation in sunlight. It creates a severe fever, nausea, dizziness, loss of appetite and hallucinations. I personally always believe that I am freezing when I contract this illness. You have to keep the patient cool and wait it out

Scale rot: A dermal condition when too much moisture accumulates under the scales and over saturates the skin underneath. This usually occurs from too much rain exposure. Scales will fall off in patches leaving exposed saturated flesh that can become like a blister. Try and keep the areas dry and allow it to breath to dry out.

Dry scales: its exactly what it sounds like. The scales become try brittle, itchy and can crack if severe enough. The best cure is to roll yourself on a large sandstone rock and use mud to moisturize.

Hypothermia: Young draconidaes have trouble maintaining their own body temperature while they are sleeping so body temp dropping can happen even at warmer weather temperatures. This gets better as they get older but hypothermia in dragons is best treated by warming the body slowly and evenly. laying them in a cooler orange fire is one way to do this.

Hyperthermia: While rare it does happen. Hydration is very important and submersion in a cool slow moving stream will pull the excess heat away from the body.

Wind draconidaes

Wind draconidaes have a soul connection with the wind. Their most notable feature is their large kite shape wings that allow them to remain in the sky for hours longer than any other dragon. They have scales that range from off white to pale blue. (please note that the proportions on the drawing aren’t exact such as the wings are larger and legs are slightly shorter)

Wind draconidaes spend most of their time gliding along wind currents. While they are capable of powered flight they prefer gliding to save energy. When a large group of them get together and are angry they can stop hurricanes and tornadoes by using their powers in the opposite direction, They can also create them if they are angry enough. They love to play with others by creating gentle winds that ruffle your hair. They also like to use the air around them to hold themselves up and appear to float. They prefer to be off the ground as much as possible.
