Iterations
“When one door closes, another one opens.”
In the case of The Gestalt, this is more literal than figurative. When one of its iterations is shuffled from this mortal coil, a new door appears somewhere within the House, holding the version-that-was and releasing the version-that-will-be. Death will come for Esfir, inevitably, and when it does she will have a room all to herself in her home and the next iteration of The Gestalt will stumble out, holding only fragments of memories of their past lives and undeniable ownership of the strange place all of its generations call home.
All past iterations of The Gestalt live in the House, free to walk around within it (if they choose; many never unlock their doors), interact with one another & guests, and generally give their opinions on things that very much do not impact them any more. This can be a valuable source of information for a freshly formed iteration, helping them learn how to adapt in an exceptionally confusing environment - but it can also be quite a nuisance. Old wisdom does not always translate well to modern circumstances and it especially doesn’t help when one just wants to know how to turn on the damn telly.
Another notable aspect is that - generally speaking - previous iterations are not inclined to share their life stories in great detail. They will happily share memories, stories, opinions, advice, and an extra helping of opinions, but they do not frequently offer the precise whats, whens, and hows of their lives. All of them give different reasons for this, but none of their answers align. It may suggest a broader pattern of which even they are not aware, being too immersed in their own situation to objectively analyze it. It might even be that these previous versions haven’t been fully preserved - only the broad strokes and flashbulb memories.
Finally, it is worth noting that no two versions are the same, even as they learn from and build upon one another. The Gestalt is an intensely curious being, hungry for new experiences and ever-expanding horizons, and one cannot acquire these things by being the same person lifetime after lifetime after lifetime. Why, long-term guests may even be savvy enough to realize that many of the incarnations of The Gestalt aren’t even human - instead taking the shape of other intelligent beings across the stars, sampling everything the galaxy has to offer.
