My fiancé Jessy and I went on vacation with Jourdan and [her son] Riley in Italy last summer and when we were leaving, Jessy was like, "Wow, that is the relationship that you have with your mom." And I was thinking, how lucky for Riley. Because every little boy looks at his mom like she’s the most beautiful woman in the world and that is literally the case for Riley. And they’re always traveling together; they’re in hotels together. He’s a very sophisticated young man, very educated and worldly. I never saw him eating chicken fingers; he’s always having octopus or a mocktail. I was so intrigued by that relationship and what a fantastic, incredible mom Jourdan is. During the making of this collection, I had lost my grandmother and I was going home a lot to go through her things and spend time with my family, so the story was more relevant to me than ever. It’s also how I learned to make clothes—watching my mom come down the stairs to go to a Junior League event or a charity ball she was cochairing. Those moments of seeing her reveal for the first time were just my highest highs as a child. Seeing Jourdan and Riley on vacation, I felt that love. So it was important for me, in the space itself, to feel that it could be a home, but also could be a hotel.
