Okay but Sabine literally does not understand the concept of love. Her parents have never expressed love in front of her that was directed toward each other. Chaos worships the ground Maleficent walks on and Mal, in return, allows him to. 

When Maleficent was younger she had feelings for Chaos but in recent years she has gone out of her way to make sure that the relationship between him and Sabine is very strained. She’s threatened to send Sabine away to somewhere where he can’t follow, has killed Chaos multiple times in front of their daughter, etc.

Sabine doesn’t know what love in a stable or, at least, a less toxic relationship looks like. Her mother has never been very affectionate toward her and even though Chaos adores his little girl to bits Sabine doesn’t understand why or how anyone else would express something even remotely similar to that toward her.
