Setsuko, the Monster
Noburu’s mother is... a person. If his father is death, his mother is violence.
It’s unclear what or why she became the way she is; as far as anyone knows she didn’t exactly have any reason to become so violent and dangerous. But it’s uncontested that she enjoys both violence and danger.
Hard drinking, hard living, hard fighting; it’s only worth doing if it’s difficult. As soon as she was on her own, she plunged herself into a life of violence and pleasure, hedonism unrestricted by things like morals or ethics.
More than anything else, she enjoys fighting. Not winning, though that is good too, and she usually wins given her intensity, but fighting itself. The smell of blood, the breaking of bones, the ripping of flesh; there is nothing better in her mind. A barbarian to her core.
Lots of people make the mistake that her quirk is her body; that she has some kind of muscle quirk. That’s wrong. Her body is entirely self made; her muscles and bones have been strengthened from years of intense dedication and training, boosted by her actual quirk: blood manipulation.
By increasing the oxygen in her blood by increasing how fast her blood pumps through her veins, she increases her physical abilities exponentially. By training her body, she’s become able to withstand the physical strain this puts upon herself, which makes her seem superhuman...
But in truth, there are two reasons she is known as ‘The Monster.’ First, she only has two gears, and she does not hold back against anyone. A fight is only a fight if you put your all into it, after all. And second, she lacks any kind of formal training. She is a meathead, a brawler, someone without any kind of refinement. Punch harder, not smarter.
Her history with Shi is not very complicated either. She met him when she was 18, and started a fight, and won. At the time, he could only see ahead three seconds, which is his excuse, but it’s entirely uncontested by him that she defeated him. After which point the two, bonding over a love of violence, consummated their love in the natural way. The fact that he was so much older than her didn’t bother her one bit, nor did the idea of bearing a child for him.
Though she didn’t really have any interest in raising a child. Which is why after having Noburu, she gave him to his father, and promptly fucked right off on a worldwide warrior pilgrimage of sorts.
In fact, she only returned to Japan when she got a message from his father saying that he’d surpassed him. Curious, she’s now trying to learn more about him, secretly of course. Though ‘secretly’ is relative...
She’s taken a job as a teacher at UA. Does she have any teaching experience? No. Does she know anything about teaching? No. But given Midnight died and all the civilians are terrified, she’s a perfectly serviceable looking guard for making people feel safe. Probably.
Sadly, she’s a terrible teacher. Which is good for students looking to pass, but it’s bad for them trying to survive when she teaches Physical Education.
