Which I realize I'm going to need to change the name of at some point.

But honestly I can't really handle multiple accounts like this, so I'm going to move the muses there to have them in one place.

Pretty sure this only like, effects like three people though.

Himiko can't buy an entire tiger, but she has been getting good at origami ( those yokai have to inhabit something after all)

So she gifts Noburo a handful of paper tiger familiars.

Wow, Himiko is like, a superhero! She's amazing! He shall cherish all of them and make sure they are all well fed. What do paper tigers eat? He has no idea. He'll figure it out!

He's very happy.

Grown ass man who is barely literate and cannot understand most human emotions because he's never been properly socialized, and his childhood is a horror story.

Also, he might be attached to pets.

Less 'worthless' pathetic and more 'feel bad he is broken' pathetic.

Even if he still didn't really understand it, he didn't want to dampen Nobu's dream and with any luck he'd be able to maybe rein him in a bit. "Y-Yeah, uh would definitely be pretty bad if everyone died...! But instead, maybe I can teach you some sports - and you can teach the students? No death required!"

"Well, yes. But I was trained with the idea that if your training is worse than anything anyone will do to you, then you never have anything to fear from someone else. A lot of it is more about the mental than the physical; like, people struggle with the tension and pain and then they give in. Their minds fail long before their body does."

"Granted, my body isn't exactly made for most sports. But, I could probably help you with running a bit more. Though I can't imagine i'd be worse than your last guy."

Intriguing. He'd never called her by her first name before. Perhaps he was learning to trust her?

"You have a point, but right now is not the time. Perhaps we can discuss this later. Since you'd like to preserve your form... Then I'll suggest you do something to help with that? How does getting a meal sound? You can't fight if you aren't well-fed. Or would you rather do something else? Explore the city?"

"I suppose so. But my job is to follow you, you know? I can't exactly trust the people you surround yourself with. They're... lacking." Mostly because they weren't nearly tough enough! "Still I guess I should mention some offers I've been getting? People seem to want to poach me... But perhaps you'd instead consider it a loan? I'm not interested in working for someone else."

"I think both are pretty important, kero. Especially in this line of work."

She blinked, slowly. "I'm gonna suggest you get some more reading lessons, then. I know you might not think it's important, but it really is. Dodging a bullet is a good skill to have, but being able to read a police report and making sure what it says is factually correct is just as important, kero."

"Eh, I don't really pay much attention to that." Mostly because he was usually going so deep underground that there wasn't much need. He was better, yes, but not so good at being a normal person. "I figured just leaving them unconscious to be found was enough." His internships were... difficult. For them.

"I still think we should train together, Elmyra. I mean, you'd get much stronger." And he thinks he would too. But that's not much of a selling point. "Besides, we're both helping Chiasa, right?"

Elmyra shook her head. "Your skillset has little you can learn from me. Besides, it's more a bonding thing with Chiasa. She enjoys staying grounded with people. I like finding things to share with her."

"Yeah, but she's serious about learning how to defend herself. And I think that every possible chance to learn should be taken with this sorta thing. I know you died once so it's no big deal for you, but I figured you wouldn't like to feel like you're rusty or weak, or unable to help."

So Noburu hands him what appears to be a bunch of legal documents and a deed to a building. "Happy birthday... I wasn't sure what to get you, so I bought you a local protein powder distributor."

Noburu's birthday gift from last year had been one for the books and one he still remembered clearly even a year later - so naturally, when he saw Noburu approaching, he was intrigued.

So, what would it be this time...? Maybe even money and gold...? Jewels...?

Hell, knowing Noburu it could be just about anything!

Noburu was a difficult guy to read but at the end of the day, Ryuji knew he meant well and he wasn't a malicious guy - hell, even if his gift last year had been different - it was still memorable and kind of him, nonetheless - so as Noburu spoke, he listened closely. "W-Wait, you got me a whole distributor...?" He blinks, doing a double take - at first he'd thought Noburu had just got him an entire can of protein but it seemed Noburu had gone as far as getting a distributor for him...?!

"S-So, that means all that the protein I could ever want...?" He whispers these words, still waiting for the punchline. "M-Man, that's one hell of a gift...! You're always the MVP when it comes to gifts, Nobu...!"

She blinked at him slowly. The fight he'd been in was a tough one, but he'd ended up winning in the end. It took a whole team to hold him back despite the injuries he'd sustained. And then came the aftermath in the hospital. Now she watched as he lay in the hospital bed, arm bandaged in a cast and bruises all over.

"You broke your own arm to beat the crap outta that guy, kero."

She set down the get-well basket she and the others in the class had made for him and dug through it. She pulled out a small basket of strawberries and set them down on his lap. "I got these for you. They cost a lot but they're supposed to be super good, kero. Maybe eating a tasty snack will cheer you up."

"Well, if they hadn't gotten in my way, I would have only needed to dislocate it. Which I can do." It wasn't that he disliked working with others, but when a fight was a fight, it made little sense to him to get between him and an opponent he felt like he had in hand.

Of course, the reason they had to hold him back was because he'd surrendered and Noburu might have beaten the man to death with his own broken arm. Or at least, that's what they had been worried about.

"Still, this isn't that bad a wound. I could fight like this." And he probably would if Tsuyu didn't keep him in check.

"But thank you for the gift. I'll repay the cost for you." Because clearly what she needed was a great deal of sketchy money in her life.
