Writing Challenge Day 16: Space

It was Reid’s favorite part of the day. The airlock opened and he carefully stepped over the edge and onto the side of the ship. His magnets in his boots activated the instant they made contact with the hull, giving Reid the impression that he was standing perpendicular to the ship. The only sounds he could hear were his own breath and the communicator chatter in his ear. He took a moment to try to look into the--

“Hey Gatlin, wake up. You can spend time sightseeing AFTER you check the potential hull breach.” Reid snapped out of his daze at the sound of his boss hissing into his ear. 

“Alright, alright, sheesh.” He muttered as he made his way up the hull. The stabilizers built into his suit kept him upright as he walked. It was something to do with physics that Reid didn’t really care to remember at the moment. He just wanted to get his job over and done with as quickly as possible before the ship entered the gravitational pull of the planet they were approaching. 

The job didn’t take too incredibly long. The dent in the ship’s hull was logged for future repair, and all other potential integrity issues were still within green levels. Since he had a lot of time on his hands, Reid made his way towards one of the airlocks reserved for engineers. Once he was a good couple of meters away, he let himself look up. 

The stars were bright and wonderful as they streaked by. It was impossible to put together constellations, but Reid could still imagine what they looked like as the ship traveled through the cosmos. He smiled as a comet streaked in the distance. He wished he could stay out there forever.
