trying to set up a queue for y’all since I’m leaving on Friday (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
For those of you who didn’t see the original announcement post, I got an assistant bander job (unpaid but it’s a start!!) in the Utah wilderness by the Colorado Plateau. We’ll be studying the population dynamics of passerines migrating through the area. Day 1 is on April 3rd!!!!! So I’m roadtrippin’ from CA, past the Grand Canyon, backpack in Bryce Canyon.... melts across the floor i’m so excited and scared it’s been makin’ me sick the past few weeks!!!
Anyway though I’m leaving in 2 days (2 days!!!!!!) so as you can expect I’m going to be pretty scarce on here for the next 3 months. I will have limited internet at the field station so as long as I limit my time, I should be able to pop on here and queue a few things without pissing anyone off.
I’m not too broken up about it tbh except that it means I’m going to miss all my friends’ lives happenin’ without me. >:l Imma miss you fools!!!! Send me little asks with your massive wonderful life updates!!! I will try to make update posts for me too to let y’all know what a great time i’m having playing with birds. but lbr it’s gonna be a great time for me no matter what!!!
If you want to unfollow me that’s ok. i’ll be back in late June!!!
It's difficult to describe how hard the last couple years have been for me, even though I've spent so much time bogged down in the dark thoughts that have defined them. But I've kept this inside for so long, and now I owe it to myself to try.
Why didn't I work harder? Why didn't I pursue this when I had the chance? When people were still willing to teach me? How do I move forward now that I finally know what I want? Why doesn't anyone want me? When these are your constant companions, you really don't need enemies, and you feel like you can't have friends, either.
A good day is one with no time to dwell. A new job, long busy hours, a new workout, a new way to fall asleep fast that night. A bad day... you don't talk about the bad days. You smile and say it was okay. Hope no one notices that you blink too fast and don't make eye contact. You find a new way to beat yourself up without feeling like you're punishing yourself. If you keep moving, you can forget that you're only running in place. Right?
If you live like that long enough, you forget that you're doing it on purpose. But every new application reminds you, with that terrible fear: Will anyone ever want me? And every rejection jars you anew. How do I get to the life I want when every way appears blocked?
You keep moving. You find new ways to move forward, even if it's only a baby step, even if it's a leap of faith that scares you to death. 1,000 miles and one itty bitty teeny tiny baby step forward. It's enough for a while. You learn new things, meet new, wonderful people who get you and your passion. You understand that you really, truly belong there. But you have to go back home eventually. And when it's no longer enough? You keep moving.
And when the good news finally, finally, finally comes, you almost can't believe it's real. And you want to pounce on it that second, before they realize their mistake.
But it's not a mistake. They're impressed with you. They believe you have what it takes, even when you haven't, not for years. They want you. Two positions to fill, and they want YOU. And it's been so long, it feels all new, being wanted. You want to jump and scream and dance, and cry, and hug everyone you meet, but you hold it in because you don't want others see the darkness that makes your joy so bright. You feel like you're going to explode.
They want you.
They want me. And I'm going.
I am overjoyed to announce that starting April 1st, I'll be an assistant bander working with the passerine banding station at the University of Utah's Rio Mesa Center, helping to conduct a long-term migratory bird monitoring project surrounded by spectacular red-rock Colorado Plateau landscapes.
Another roadtrip, another step forward. Another leap.
It's difficult to describe how hard the last couple years have been for me. Can you understand? I know I'm not alone, but knowing is different from feeling, and I haven't felt anything but sad for a long time. Not anymore. I can't leave these years behind, because they are a part of who I am today, but it's time for me to stop looking back just because looking forward was too painful; if I'm going to move forward now, I want to watch every step I take, and I want you to, too.
Thank you for reading.
laughs really hard about everyone's responses to the question "what do you think when you smell horse manure" because it's weird as fuck i know but in all honesty i really loooovveee the smell of horse shit okay, it's soft and earthy, a little sweet but nothing like the sickly-sweet shit puddle of cattle manure at all, it just has a clean smell to it even though it's poop and I don't understand why okay, it just does and every time I go by a ranch, either when I'm up in Davis or out riding my bike around the mountain, I breathe it in deep man that's such a good smell
yep another one..!! This time from Brave! I'm not...too late...haha
