SYNOPSIS:
Stuck on Earth, a backwater planet with too much infrastruture and not enough people, Cassumeria Valenqui dreams of the stars.
Well, she doesn’t dream of the stars. She dreams of her father; renouned interstellar captain and Thief Of Starships, Ephraim Aquilar. He’s been gone for a long time now, ever since he slipped his way onto the starship Damascus and sailed away into the night sky, off to cause havoc in the depths of space. He’s more of a nightmare, really; it’s all well and good to steal a ship and run away, but you can’t just leave your child stranded alone on Earth with nothing and no one, and only occasionally send a letter home to say you ‘miss them’.
When the news reaches Earth that their oldest interstellar vessel, the Pathfinder, and it’s 100 members of crew, have disappeared from deep space without so much as a phonecall, it hits a little close to home. Cass thinks she might know who’s behind the ship’s disappearance, and she thinks she might be able to get it back...if she can earn herself a place on the Caspian, the brave ship that’s going out to find it.
Oh, and if the Caspian, the ship that never sailed, can actually make it to deep space, of course. That step is pretty important to the plan.
