This week's episode of my podcast, Scratching the Surface, continues my miniseries where I'm talking to my professors and advisors at MICA about design criticism and how they shaped my own opinions on design. Today is a really wonderful and thoughtful conversation with my writing professor, Abraham Burickson. Abe is an architect, writer, poet, and performance artist. In addition to teaching at MICA, he's the creative director of Odyssey Works, a performance troup that creates durational performances for single-person audiences. In our conversation, Abe and I talk about architecture as a frame for thinking about experiences, the relationships between buildings and poems, and writing and design.
I took a few of Abe's writing classes and have learned so much about writing, editing, poetry, and creativity by studying with him. My thesis is an infinitely better project because of his guidance. I am honored and thankful to have learned from him and to have had the chance to sit and talk with him for this episode.
