Spellbound || Jin & Zatanna
The ingredients lay dead center in the living room, surrounded by a circle of chalk with candles placed on each point of the Pentagram drawn within it. It had nothing to do with the spell itself, merely a way to make sure that the Games Master- that the Warlock named Minax wouldn’t be able to catch wind of what Jin and Zatanna were about to do. Jin had come too far to allow for a simple slip-up, if Minax was as powerful as he’d claimed to be, then the various protection spells surrounding the apartment complex were merely minor inconveniences in his path.
Jin sat in one of the nearby sofas, downing down his third energy drink coupled with an egg and mayo sandwich to give him the extra kick that he needed. The spell was going to take its toll on him, Kai had warned him of that, even with Zatanna there to help share the load there was a chance that the physical repercussions from sustaining the spell were going to be severe. The Warlock knew what he had to do, and he had a feeling that Zatanna wasn’t going to back down, though she dared not show it she was just as scarred by the incident at Verdant as he was. The fact that she was willing to go to such extremes to take Minax down proved just that.
His fingers nervously tapped against the bottle as he waited for the older magician, a small chuckle appearing on his lips as he pictured Kai’s reaction to the whole incident; Jin’s friend’s infatuation with the woman was clear from the moment Jin saw his eyes light up when Zatanna stepped on stage. Jin couldn’t blame the guy, Zatanna was a beautiful woman who could give any man a run for his money; he’d have been lying if he’d said that he hadn’t felt the same way at one point. It was true that there was a time he wouldn’t have waited before asking her out on a date but those thoughts soon disappeared and were replaced by those of a certain other.
The knock of his door alerted Jin as he finished whatever was left in the can before tossing it into the bin and walked towards the entrance of his apartment, opening the door with a welcoming smile. “It’s good to see you Zatanna,” he nodded, stepping aside to let the woman in, “I went ahead and set everything up,” he continued motioning to the ingredients on the floor. His features turned solemn realizing only now that it was the first time he was seeing her after they’d convened at Verdant with Oliver Queen to discuss what exactly what happened.
“How are you?” He spoke up, walking over towards the kitchen to grab some of the snacks that lay on the counter. Normally he’d have called them to himself but today he was saving each and every ounce of his magic knowing that he was going to need it, “I mean- How are you dealing with all this?” He continued, meeting her gaze as he walked over towards where she was; the thought occurring to him only now that he hadn’t even asked her.
“You should eat something before we get started,” he spoke, handing her a packet of crisps and some cookies, “This spell isn’t going to be easy. There’s a good chance we’ll end up unconscious on the floor… Or in the Twilight Zone.” The last line was meant to lighten the mood but they both knew there was a good possibility of that actually happening.
