A Glimpse of the Future - The Lasallian Perspective
Sometimes, we become so focused on our destination that we fail to find joy in our journey. Learn to enjoy the ride! 👍
When I was kid, my teacher asked me, “What do you want to become someday?” That was a very classic question to anyone. I said I want to become a Doctor. Until one day when I was in grade 3, I got a bad accident in school when my classmate pushed me in the comfort room and my face hit the edge of a tile. I was an accident-prone person back in my childhood days because I was so adventurous. I loved to challenge my bike mates to have a racing in our village then you know what followed next. Those incidents changed my dream of becoming a doctor. I realized that I have fear in hospital, injection, blood and most especially the feeling of physical pain. That’s why; I always take care of myself – to watch over my health, my sleeping and eating habits and my physical activities. Until I reached grade six, I taught of becoming a lawyer and in High School’s chemistry and physics classes, I just knew that I didn’t like to memorize. I am the kind of person who wants to analyze things in its most practical way. I had a hard time in choosing my career path. I just followed the advice of my parents when I took up my BS Accountancy but shifted to another course because I didn’t like it.
Growing-up was not an easy task; I experienced moments when I didn’t know what wanted in life, when I felt that I didn’t have concrete plans for myself and when I came to the point of giving up. It may sound undesirable but I really did well in school because I always believe that when I do things, I want it to be done in the best of my ability.
God put us in different situations. He wants us to know ourselves deeper and find the real essence in the challenges that we face. I am thankful of my bad experiences because it opened another side of me. I was able to find out my passion in life and that to be a servant of God through my leadership. I love to take part in the decision making of our class. Ever since, I was a member of the class officers which gave me the opportunity to be elected in the Student Council. I envision myself to be part of a bigger cause. It was such a wonderful feeling that you did something great to others and to the community. While taking my journey towards fulfilling my goals in life, I was able to build this idea:
Passion without vision is just a dream…
Vision without action is just a waste of time…
Action without commitment is just a shattered endeavor…
Every day is an inspiration to do what I envisioned for and a chance to fulfill my commitment. At some point, I may not know where it will lead me but I always trust God’s perfect timing. What matters most is that we know our grounds. Through MBA, I am beginning to appreciate more my vision and commitment. I had the opportunity to do my career and life plan 25 years from now. That was my first time to have such reflection. Normally, we were just taught of planning for the next 5 years or 10 years but it was a very detailed plan. Through this, I was able to review and expand my goals and come-up plans on how to achieve it.
Future is not just a word but rather a combination of passion, vision, action and commitment. Put these into one… It will be a BRIGHTER FUTURE.
