Hi hello it has been such a long time since I was last super active here, mostly due to work and the absolute insanity that has created, but I have started writing a piece of original fiction and really want to yell about it somewhere.

A brief rundown - Luc Pessard, son of the King of Abrynth, does not want to be king someday. He wants to travel! He wants to be a tourist! Accompanied by a very reluctant member of the King's Guard (Sir Archibald Winslow), and a half-hearted blessing from his father, Luc goes travelling. With Sir Archibald posing as his elderly Uncle Archie, Luc sees the forests, mountains, and beaches of Abrynth, meeting all sort of colourful characters along the way, the most notable of whom is a young ruffian named Efren Capello, who rescues Luc and Archibald from an unfortunate encounter with a swarm of mud mephitis. Efren is fascinated with Luc, having never met a nobleman before, and offers to act as a guide of sorts. Forming a strange little trio, Luc, Efren, and the long-suffering Archibald traverse the country, and as they travel, Luc becomes more and more captivated by his carefree, wildborne guide. Little does he know, Efren is just as intrigued by him. Neither of them really want the journey to end, but duties and long-forgotten secrets form barriers between them and what could be their happy ending.

some questions about your original fiction because im very intrigued: what are luc's greatest strengths and weaknesses? what's your favorite thing about him and efren? also, what would you say is at the heart/core of the story?

Strengths and weaknesses:

Luc is such an open-hearted man who feels so deeply and strongly about things. He wants connection with people, he wants to hear their stories and learn about their lives, and he would give the shirt off his back to help someone, which I think is his greatest strength. His greatest weakness, though through no fault of his own, is his naivety. He has lived an extremely sheltered life and simply cannot comprehend the thought of not having enough to eat, or having small shelters, or even what to expect when he's on the road in terms of thieves or monsters. It can make him seem a bit out of touch, or dim witted sometimes, but he simply doesn't know what he doesn't know. It does get him into trouble on occasion but it's never from a place of maliciousness.

Favourite things:

My favourite thing about Luc is his readiness to plunge headfirst into adventure without really thinking about it first. It gets him into all sorts of fun situations, and he just takes it on the chin. He moves through the world with chaos swirling around him, but he is so very calm in the face of it all. An unbothered king.

My favourite thing about Efren is his cheeky streak. He is the eldest of 4 children, and he has 3 younger sisters, so he is very good and well trained in the arts of mischief and fuckery. He clocks Luc as a nobleman immediately, despite Luc's best efforts to hide it, and refers to him as "little lordling" for a while. He loves to tease Luc and Archibald, and makes their journey a lot of fun. Even Luc is surprised with how much he lets Efren get away with.

Heart of the story

Okay so it is a fantasy/adventure story but it is also a queer romance too and I feel like that is an important part of it too. There is a lot of Chose Your Destiny about it, and breaking away from familial expectations. Both Luc and Efren have expectations/rules laid out for them by their families that they either don't understand/ don't like, and they decide to forge their own path through the world and make their own rules, despite some of the consequences that may have. It is ultimately a story about breaking out of the mold/ finding your true self in a world where that might not be the easiest task.

Hiiii Wolf, thank you so much! Have a little (very unedited) bit of Luc and Efren's first meeting.

Luc’s blade cut through the air in a wide arc, catching the mephit in the neck and neatly severing its head from its shoulders. Thick globules of mud spattered in place of blood, coating Luc’s arms and sword. He tightened his grip, fingers flexing over the soft leather of the hilt. “See!” he panted, turning towards Archibald with a triumphant grin. “I can take care of myself!” The words had no sooner left his mouth when Luc heard a rustling in the trees above. Angling his head upwards, he caught a glimpse of silvery light flashing among the leaves. A rush of fear spread from his chest to the tip of his fingers – had they angered a dryad, or some sort of tree guardian? Preparing for the worst, Luc lifted his sword, the blade poised in front of his face and – A figure dropped from the trees and landed behind him, spearing a mephit that had evaded Archibald’s keen eye, and had been sneaking up to grab at Luc. Luc spun around as the creature died with a wet gurgle, a claw still extended towards Luc’s ankle, mere inches from catching his heel and ripping at his Achilles tendon. “What the-?” The figure – a man – straightened and wiped a vicious-looking dagger on the edge of his well-worn cloak. He pushed back his hood, revealing a twinkling set of forest green eyes and an amused smirk. It struck Luc that this was one of the most beautiful men he’d ever seen. “Take care of yourself, hmm?” The stranger stowed his blade and wiped a fleck of mud from his chin. “One more second and that mephit would have crippled you.”
