This is what cool looks like.
Yep. Classic romantic trope. It's not like they haven't done his before. I mean..
They were always doing this because every time they thought the show was going to end that season, but it didn't. The last real break up was in S10 I believe, after Dean beating the shit out of Cas under the MOC influence. (@destielette1 made a post about this too). In season 11 there wasn’t a break up, it was just pure romantic angst. Season 12 was filled with husbandly bickering, and the breaking point was when Cas left with Kelly. But it wasn’t a break-up. Not really, when they found each other again they worked together to beat Lucifer up.
Doing the temporary break up trope this far on the series, knowing the end is near, is just an excuse for unnecesary angst, and to delay the inevitable: Dean and Cas confessing their love for each other.
The problem is that it feels almost forced, unnecesary and uttely cruel. Dean has grown a lot and he knows better than to say that to Castiel of all people. We all had the huge displeasure to observe Dean grieving Cas from e1-5 s13. It was so awful.
From all the scenes, there's one that hurt me the most, personally. We haven't seen Dean crying (Ofc), but in the scene I'm talking about, he's displaying red eyes, a little bit puffy (Hard to tell of course because Jensen is the embodiment of physical perfection and literally looks hot while being shot) and he's being a dick to his brother. Well, like every episode before Cas goes back.
This fucking hurt me, 'cause Dean, the big brother who aways protects his little brother, yells at him “MOM’S DEAD, LUCIFER RIPPED OUT HER FREAKING HEART, AND AS SOON AS YOU WRAP YOUR HEAD AROUND THAT, THE SOONER WE CAN ALL MOVE ON”. I mean, Fuck Dean, right? He has no right to treat his brother like that, specially knowing the history Sam has with Lucifer and Mary. Are two of his biggest traumas. But Sam knows what’s going on... “So you’re saying you want to move on ........ from mom?”
That little pause is everything. And the scene didn’t even have background music, there was silence. Completely silent. At first Dean is reluctant to meet his eyes, but then he looks at his little brother, and Sam gives the look back, silently saying “I see through your bullshit, Dean, I know you’re hurt about Cas, you can talk to me about it and stop being a dick”...
Dean just lean back and change the subject.
THAT DEAN would NEVER TELL CAS SOMETHING LIKE
“YOU’RE DEAD TO ME”
This is why the scene on top is completely off character at this point of the series (If the scene is actually like they developed it in the promo) . In season 13 there wasn’t a break up between Dean and Cas, and this season they were swimming in shit thanks to this Michael stuff and now Soulless Jack stuff. Like the awesome @magnificent-winged-beast pointed out, Dean was already warned by Cas about Jack’s soul. If he was careless it’s his OWN FAULT. Jack has three dads. And a mom. Why the only one checking on him is Castiel? Why is everything his responsability? He already made a deal with the empty in exchange with Jack’s life.
In conclusion, this is lazy writing. I repeat, if the scene plays exactly like the promo (which I doubt) it’s awful, sad and super cruel. I understand Supernatural writers are trying to give us the last big break up before Dean and Cas suck each other’s tongues, but this is so painful, man, super unnecesary, and the writers are the only one’s to blame if it plays like that. “Abscence” was written by Bobo Berens, I’d rather to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Let’s see how it plays out this thursday.

Donc . . .
Well.

On your darkest of days, despite the absence of proof, you have to believe that these is still something beautiful inside of you.
