Absinthe Minded
April 12, 2007 - Still Alive? Raced from 2009-2012 Thoroughbred Mare - United States
It's not known why she was given this name. It is a spoof on the phrase Absent Minded, with Absinthe being a type of highly alcoholic drink.
Absinthe Minded raced only three times as a two year old, her best effort being a fourth place. At three, she broke her maiden in her second start of the year. She won only once more that year in an Allowance Optional Claiming in July. However during that year she ran in four Graded Stakes including the Bourbonette Oaks, Coaching Club American Oaks, Monmouth Oaks and Cotillion Stakes, but the best she did was fifth in both the Bourbonette and Cotillion.
She returned in 2011 to win her first race of the year, and then winning the first stakes race of her career in the Bayakoa Stakes. After that she would run in nine graded stakes, and while she did not win any of them she ran good races against some of the best mares in the country. She ran third in the Azeri stakes to Havre De Grace and Blind Luck. She finished third again behind Havre De Grace and Switch in the Apple Blossom. She finished second to Awesome Maria in the Shuvee Handicap, and third to Quiet Giant and Payton D'Oro in the Molly Pitcher Stakes. She also finished fourth in the La Troienne and off the board in the Ogden Phipps Handicap, Ruffian Invitational Handicap, First Lady Stakes and Chilukki Stakes.
At four years old in 2012 she won two races in a row in the Pippin Stakes and Bayakoa Stakes. She raced seven more times that year but her only finish on the board was a second place in the Apple Blossom Handicap behind Plum Pretty. Her final start was a 5th place finish in the Mari Hulman George Stakes in October of 2012.
I cannot find any information on Absinthe Minded now that she has been retired. She has no foals that show up on the Equibase Dam Search or the Horse Racing Nation progeny list. She has no auction record so I assume she may have been retired to her owner/breeder Briland Farm's operation.
