Forever thinking about that one scene in Beartown where some stupid teens on bikes throw a rock through the Andersson's window to taunt Maya and Kira drives out in the middle of the night in her tiny Volvo. Kira Andersson, arguably the most levelheaded character in the entire trilogy, is so angry and emotionally broken by the town's treatment of her daughter that she runs over four teenagers with her car and was fully prepared to beat them to death with a golf club, all to defend her traumatized child, because she's spent an entire book thinking she's failed to protect her.
But then Maya steps in. Maya, whose feet are bleeding from trying to chase after her mother. Maya, who became a pariah simply because the town cared more about hockey than it did about her. Maya, who has every fucking right to want to beat her tormentors to death and will dream about putting a gun to her abuser's head in the following days, runs up and wrestles the golf club out of Kira's hands. So they sit in the snow and cry together, Maya holding Kira, daughter protecting mother from making a terrible mistake. And then Peter takes them back inside, and even though everyone was watching from their windows, no one in the Heights ever speaks of it.
It's been 4 years since I read that scene and it has not left my head since.
Sanguinius x Reader, part 5 ½? I got stuck writing the next part from Reader’s perspective and realized I needed to write some from his perspective first. I used “they” to describe the Reader because I’ve tried to keep this gender neutral throughout. Not necessarily because the Reader uses they/them pronouns, although the reader certainly could!

At first, the Angel just wanted to sleep.
He saw the Soldier and knew what they were, could feel the calming effect their presence had on him. It made him feel relieved, unburdened. He kept finding reasons to be in the same part of the ship.
The Soldier was quiet, as many of the surviving humans were. The Soldier made themselves useful, helping with repairs to the ship and weapons. They would even sometimes help apothecaries with wounded comrades.
He was drawn to their light, he realized that if they could just be closer to him, he could have rest. He could have peace from the visions of his brother – his best friend, he had thought once – ending him with the talons of claws piercing his hearts. And Lorgar, and how many more of his brothers, turning traitor. He had had enough of all of them. Had enough, for now, of being transhuman.
He saw these humans, who had fought so bravely, comforting each other. With pats on the back, gentle hugs, held hands, and sometimes… more. That kind of human comfort was so rare for him. He had been built to strike awe, and fear, in ordinary humans, by his very existence. But he would never, ever, so much as kiss the forehead of a human who showed the slightest fear of him. And he always knew when they were afraid.
And then he realized. He wanted more than just to be in the Soldier’s presence. He wanted them closer still. In his arms. In his bed. To feel their single heartbeat under his hand. To – but no. The Soldier would fear him, like so many humans did, whether they knew it or not. But he longed for them anyway.
And he waited, until the changes in the army gave him the reason he needed to ask the Soldier to be closer.
He met with the Soldier, alone, and they did not fear him. They feared being in trouble, and were awkward and nervous they might mess up. They were awed by his presence. But with excitement, not fear. And then – as they were alone, and talked, and drank, and laughed – it was unmistakable. The Soldier was aroused. Just a little, but he could tell, oh yes he could tell. The flush that was more than wine, the way they bit their lower lip without realizing, the scent…
But he sent them away, to their new rooms so close to his. The Soldier had been drinking, and they were not sober, no matter what they might think. He hoped it was not just the wine. He longed to see them again soon. So he left the door open for his Soldier.
