Statue of Philip I, Duke of Orléans, only brother of Louis XIV, by Francisque Joseph Duret (1804-1865)
Let's continue our virtual tour of the museum. At the entrance of the historic museum, you find the statue of Philippe d ' Orléans, the only brother of King Louis XIV. This statue was ordered by the sculptor Francisque-Joseph Duret in 1836 by Louis-Philippe I, the last French king, for the museum dedicated to the glory of France, which he had decided to create in the castle of Versailles. Philippe d ' Orléans is represented in court dress with some military attributes. He holds in his right hand a command stick decorated with lily flowers, wearing around the size the white scarf of the military command. His left hip also distinguishes the shape of his sword loop.
