During the trip to Portugal, William had tested his language skills far more extensively than he had in months and yet working on a fourth language still didn't mean he knew enough to converse with even half of the other guests that arrived for the pageant. It wasn't the best for furthering diplomacy, but chances were that others would say he didn't need to be so concerned with diplomacy unless he was getting married.
He was being cynical, definitely a sign that he needed a breather and as William wandered away from the gathering of people, he found two men on either side of a table, little figurines spread across a checkered board. It looked like a form of chess and as William watched, one of them men seemed to concede defeat, standing to leave the table.
Looking around and not seeing anyone else claiming the empty chair, William helped himself to it. "Do you know English?" He asked. "Ou français?" Although if it was like chess, it didn't really matter since William was certain he could figure it out.
