OH!! I dunno where you saw me mentioning it, BUT, it's a danny phantom fancomic i'm working on! In universe, ECTOCON is an ectoscience conference, inspired by the real life security conference, DEFCON, which also exists in universe. However, it's certainly not as big or popular.

because we REALLY dont know what he was up to in those 10 years, and he's obsessed with revenge and "destiny". what would even be interesting to him about destroying the Literal Entire World.

thinking about "obsessions" for ghosts in DP, and how even though the concept is implied- it's not really explicitly discussed, and the absolutely fascinating idea of it being able to CHANGE (/be refined) that's presented in AGIT.
i do think vlad's obsession could be related to the moment everything went wrong. obsessed with a life stolen from him, that he'll never have, which is then honed into "making amends", but seems to be more about protection now. protecting what he DOES have now, at least. doesn't mean he's a good person, or that he's kind, or that he extends it outside of what he considers "his."
i don't think danny's obsession has ever been about protection, though. he wants to become a "bridge" between the living and dead post-AGIT, which i think points to something else. he went into the portal out of curiosity (and sam's suggestion)- and, he wants to become an astronaut when he grows up. i think, if anything, his obsession would be of "understanding the unknown." he's not consumed by his obsession, due to the fact that he has plenty of anchors in the form of his family, friends, and mundane obligations.
There is still an argument to be made that he doesn't have an obsession, and I would buy into it. I'm still not sold on the idea of Danny, Vlad, or other artificially created ghosts (like the Danny clones) having an obsession, which is why they start off weaker. For the clones, they never had a chance to live and gain something to focus on. However, for full artificial ghosts and halfas, longer they exist, the more anchors they have to the living, the stronger they can become, and they likely Can gain an obsession...
Which leads me to "Dan Phantom" (who I call Banshee in my fic writing once he chooses a name, so I'll use that for ease of clarity)
Banshee is a combination of two ghosts- both of them who have had their future ripped away, their loved ones ripped away, and for the Phantom side of things- his childhood ripped away. I do think, that no matter What headcanon I go for with Vlad and Danny, he Does have an obsession, strongly inspired by the end of AGIT- he's obsessed if things are fair, he's obsessed with "justice" in a VERY specific and currently unhealthy way that's hard to really... condense into something concise.
Fortunately I like writing him and like writing about him so I can just Show instead of tell in future works.
we really should make a fancomic about the mobile game monument valley, we've had so many thoughts about it for like a decade... however.
the audience is so niche that it's basically Me and ustwo games, the devs, at this point.
