how does he feel about his job ? is it more of a job or a calling ?
that depends on the job in question since, as of current times, he has two. the first being his primary job, overseeing the underworld and being it’s king and lord. in the beginning when those lots were first drawn, it wouldn’t say he was gung ho on being so isolated from everything else but those feelings quickly went away once he laid eyes upon the kingdom. what people forget is that the underworld isn’t just a place of gloom, grief, and terror. it’s kingdom is vast, rivaling the likes of olympus itself. people see it as the anti-thesis to the kingdom above, but i’d say they are more like brethren. the same can be said for the sea and all it beholds, but hades isn’t a water person to be quite honest. he cares for the underworld like he cares for his home because, in the end, it IS his home. he is the master of the house and he wouldn’t have it any other way. so yes, i would say it is his calling and he’s quite content with that.
on another note, his job as the owner of the elysian in new york city is a different story. that one took a lot longer to come to appreciate since it’s so different than his norm. new york city ( he jokes that it might as well be part of the underworld as well ) is still a life of glamour and lights so sometimes he winces at the pure idea of it —- but with the help of his wife, he’s turned the elysian into something he can enjoy. it’s a place where mortal, non-mortal, and dead can all enjoy a time of relaxation ( or torture, if one wishes it, though he won’t be the one guiding those hands. the erinyes can handle that ). it also serves as another gate to the underworld so if he really needs to get away, it’s quite literally a hop skip and a jump.
to finally answer both questions —- he’s content with the life he has right now. it’s not hectic, it’s not dramatic; it’s just right for him and that’s all he wants.
