Thinking AC meta thoughts. Geniunely, the thought of a company making history, the lives of everyone who has ever lived as seen through their eyes into a product is such a terrifying thought.
Where does the limit between a historical character and your great-grandpa go? Your mother? Who gives us a permit to feel and see other people's, even if they are long gone, most intimate thoughts and feel their sorrows and heart breaks?
As a scientific method, accessing the animus and directly experiencing history as it happens is brilliant. Old mysteries answered. Endless new knowledge. Extinct languages refound. But Absergo is selling the Animi for entertainment so everyone can access the past themselves. Having paid a price for it, of course.
It's a new level of capitalist hell. Not only are you, the person currently living the digital era being a product to a few huge corporations that will sell your privacy for profit, now not even your ancestors are safe. Sure, they are long dead. But would you want anyone to know everything about you? Of your family? How is someone who lived a thousand years ago amy different? Even if their memory has faded from the minds of men, isn't their life still just as worthy of respect?
Knowing how VR and stuff like deepfakes and AI are currently used, Animus porn would be a big thing. Having sex with a real historical character? There would be people into it. But again, the people in it would be real, even if long dead. And it wouldn't stay limited to big historical hotties™ (I know we all want Leonardo), but anyone's great grandmother would be a subject in someones Animus porn collection (tho also well known historical characters do deserve privacy, too. Their lives aren't ours to live).
And then there is ofc Abstergo using the Animus for propaganda. People of the past used to spread a message they didn't stand for. A company being able to change the flow of history according to their will. As we've seen happen in Assassin's Creed, in AC4 modern day and in the AC Reflections graphic novel.
The past being sold as a product to consume. What a concept.
