There couldn’t have been better weather for the festival. The sun shined brightly above Evangeline as she walked, warming her. The walk was just a bit longer than it normally was. Everyone else was going in the opposite direction- towards the festival. Until recently, Evangeline didn’t know a single soul who didn’t attend the festival. There were games and food and dozens of vendors from across the land. The King and Queen attended the festival, of course, and Evangeline could remember struggling to get even a glance at them. But Evangeline had even better plans for than day than some festival.
The climb up the tower had become routine. Knowing exactly where to place her hands and feet, she completed it in seconds. (Though, her excitement did have something to do with just how quickly she managed to get herself up the tower.) Once through the window, Evangeline smiled. While the entire kingdom was occupied with the festival, she would be spending the day at the castle. With the prince. And no one, except for the two of them, would have any idea about it. “Morning, Prince Joe.” She teased as a sort of greeting. Evangeline had stopped feeling obligated to call him Prince Joe long ago. He was just Joe. Her Joe. “Do you think they’ve left yet?” She asked, taking a seat on the bed. They had a whole castle to see, but, more importantly, Joe hadn’t been outside the tower in months. He deserved to be in the entirety of his own castle, not just locked up in one room. Really, he deserved to explore the whole kingdom. He was the prince of it, after all. Evangeline was lucky he deemed her worthy enough to spend hours and hours with in his tower. Or his castle, as the case may be.
