I hold this paradoxically belief, that:
1) We all deserve all of the love and good we can possibly receive
2) You should give all of the good that you possibly can to others
3) We are not owed anything explicitly from others
I’ve been attempting to work out the details for years. It kinda comes down to this:
Everyone deserves compassion. But no one is owed it. We are not in each others debts, but rather we are in a position to lift each other up, and it is our privilege and responsibility to try and spread kindness.
However, it is not on someone else to make you happy. No one owes it to you. Sometimes we deserve it, and the world still comes up lacking. And that is no ones fault. That is why we must invest in ourselves.
That is why you must only surround yourself with people who recognize that it’s a privilege to lift you up. Find people who don’t think of caring for you as their responsibility, because it’s not. But the people who care for you regardless, without guilt or ownership as a motivator
But that’s also why we can’t get mad at our friends for not dropping everything to take care of us. We can’t expect our partners to be our therapists. It’s our own responsibility to take care of ourselves, but it is not something we deserve to do alone
Cherish those around you that recognize how important it is take care of each other. Then, take care of yourself, so you can help them in return
