i don't exactly know what it is, but the last few years it's become so hard to make friends online. i used to talk to tons of people in private messages, but now? on almost every platform interactions in general have depleted and people don't really seem to care to keep conversations going. fandoms also don't really feel like communities anymore, it's like everyone is on their own island only bothering themselves with what they're (and maybe their already established friends) are doing.
this is not even to criticize anyone in particular, because i feel like i'm not as chatty and interactive towards others either, but it's just unfortunate. i used to see the internet as a place to escape to so i felt less lonely, but for the first time i also feel lonely when i come online.
