that's pretty interesting. i want to change my name bc i don't want any bonds to my family: i rather have bonds with someone who loves me. but i def see why someone would keep their name: and that's beautiful.

see this is what i think it should be about. healthy family dynamics. you want your name to reflect that. if you have a family you were born into and love. keep that name. if you weren’t, and you don’t consider them family? then why should you keep that name as yours? 

your family name should reflect your family. it’s so simple. 

if your family is your parents and extended relatives? keep your birth/adopted name.

if your family is only the one you’ve created with a partner? take their name! 

if your family is huge and the names are various. well lucky you, lots to choose from, mix and match a bit!

if your family is only you right now. damn you get a great oppertunity to just choose whatever the hell you like.

if you want to call the whole system bullshit and not bother to change your name ever because it’s a stupidly long process. good for you!
