Accumark Workshop

Today in class Jess showed us some of the basics on the Accumark pattern making software that allows us to enter dimensions and shapes which can then be transferred to the large cutter/printers, providing us with a pattern we can print numerous times, and also send anywhere in the world to be used.

We were all making the zero-waste kimono pattern we had experimented with the week before. 

Here I was adding the intermediate points from which I could draw my fold and cut lines. I admit this was much quicker than calculating the measurements myself !

By right clicking, a shortcut to adding multiple intermediate points can be found.

I think the Accumark software is incredible in that a pattern can be developed and added to without wastage of paper. This in itself is a great use of digital fabrication. I do not see myself using this a lot in the near future as I quit enjoy pattern making in the traditional sense, however for industry, I assume they would use this a lot in sending their patterns across the globe if needed for their garments to be created. I found the software quite challenging in that the default mouse clicks were different to any other software I have ever used, and it seems as if there are not many tutorials online where it would be effective to self learn from.
