it all happens in quick succession. he’s thumbing through news articles on his phone, scrolling past most of them without a second thought. he stops the instant he sees desmond’s name pop out. he’s curious by default, but when he fully understands what he’s reading, he’s sitting up straight and rapidly typing out texts to the irishman. there’s a small part of his brain that says not to text him, that it’s not his place, but dmitri cares and wants to be there for him. he can only imagine all the heat that he’s getting -- from media, from his parents. too much of that, not enough genuine empathy.
