What Your Rook Is Like In Bed:
Thank you @wolfsong-the-bloody-beast for the tag! I love to talk about my Rook and their experiences with an aspec relationship. That is always fun :)
Firstly, behold: My Rook!
Rest of the post under the cut because I like to ramble (and sex is mentioned)
Savar Mercar is demiromantic, and asexual. For anyone who doesn't know: It means they don’t experience sexual attraction, and only experience romantic attraction once a strong emotional bond is formed. (Bonus fun fact: this is also the reason I don’t ship them with other people's OCs. Nothing against other people’s characters! I’m sure they’re all lovely but Savar is a one-man elf, and that man is Lucanis Dellamorte ^_^)
Before the events of Veilguard, being ace made dating difficult for Savar. She hasn’t actually had any relationships, until Lucanis. A few of the other Shadow Dragons showed interest over the years, and they were nice enough, but Savar refused to let anyone waste time on a relationship she had no real intent of pursuing beyond a few friendly outings. Their bond never developed enough for romantic feelings to take hold. She once mistook admiration for what others called a ‘crush’ and confided in Tarquin that she had a crush on The Viper. Things got awkward after that! A tattoo was involved. Long story. ANYWAY…
Savar isn't interested in sex. As a young elf, they thought everyone else was simply being dramatic about 'needing to get laid' and eventually stopped joking about it when they realized other people were serious about it. They just don't view intercourse as a necessary activity, and never met anyone they'd be willing to try it for.
Having no experience doesn’t mean Savar knows nothing about sex. Despite a lack of attraction, they still wanted to make sure they weren’t missing out on anything important, and wound up doing plenty of literary research, only to determine, “Nah. I’m good.”
They still enjoy the occasional erotic novel in their reading rotation, if it’s written well enough with compelling characters. (Yes, they are absolutely one of those people who can read smut with a straight face. Bellara envies this power. Lucanis has learned not to read over their shoulder. Savar has learned how cute he looks when he blushes.)
Savar had never met another ace person until they met Lucanis and Bellara. They weren’t necessarily ashamed of their sexuality before, but the freeing experience of realizing “Wait… you’re like me.” was enough to lower a guard they hadn’t realized they’d put up many years ago. With Bellara, it was the joy of finding a friend who understood, and with Lucanis— after they realized they had feelings for him— the secret hope for a romantic relationship that might actually work out.
Without any experience himself, Lucanis had very different expectations for what he assumed his relationship with Savar would be like. Not in a bad way! He’s just never dated anyone, especially not anyone on the ace spectrum. His worries about not being ready to take things further (or not being ‘enough’ for them) are swiftly squashed by Savar’s declaration that they don’t actually have to have sex to be a proper couple. It lifts a weight from his shoulders that only makes him fall deeper in love.
Now, this doesn’t stop them from being intimate in other ways. To an outside observer, they behave like any other couple. Casual affection like kisses, hugs, and holding hands becomes normal once they get more comfortable with each other. Most of their (limited) free time is spent together.
There are multiple betting pools on when Lucanis and Savar will finally admit they’re dating. This tends to confuse Taash, who INSISTS they can tell when two people are ‘doing it’, and assures the rest of the Lighthouse that there’s no way these two are dating. (I hc that no one taught them about asexuality growing up, so they associate dating with sleeping together. One day someone will explain it to them and they will likely respond with, “Huh. Okay. Cool👍 .”)
When they manage to find some alone time, Savar and Lucanis enjoy cuddling under the covers with a good book, and even the odd make-out session if they feel like it. Without any looming expectations, they’re free to simply be with each other, and that's their favorite thing to do.
Lastly, probably goes without saying, but I adore them. If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading!
