I've seen a few posts from fans suggesting that Vox is one of the most obvious canonical allosexual characters in the cast and demonstrates sexual attraction most directly. Do you have any ideas on where this comes from? I'm not sure if I've got Ace blinkers but the only time we see him show interest in sex is as a tool or power-move, and he repeatedly de-prioritises sex in favour of straight up violence. He also gives that disappointed/confused expression when Lucifer accidentally makes things sexual and again when Killjoy comes on to him with innuendos. Plus there's that one Love Potion poster.
I'd understand not seeing him as Ace at the end of the day, but I'm surprised how little consideration I've seen it get and how his allosexuality is taken as a given. Have I missed something?
I'm glad I haven't seen those post, lol - I'd make Vox even more aroace out of spite :P Anyway! I have no idea!!! Every time I see people insisting that Vox's bar proposal scene was Vox coming onto Alastor sexually/romantically, I just cannot see what they see. The idea that Alastor was reacting to it as though it was Vox coming onto him - rather than reacting as though he thought Vox was trying to take advantage of him for Vox's own gain - just seems like a reach to me. Perhaps I'm in my own little world, but even trying, I still don't see it. Like, even back in season one, when almost everyone clocked Vox as having a crush on Alastor... It was fun to joke about, but I just don't see it! Like, again, it's fun and all, but as the main motivation? Idk. Idk. Just falls flat in my mind. It's boring!
I've posted before about how I focus on the fact that Vox is terrified of Alastor. His conflicting fear and hate and desperation to be better and stronger and more relevant than Alastor is what's so interesting to me. Any unrequited feelings are simply part of his emotional conflict, but not the main part. The main part - To Me! - is his fear. The dread he shows when Alastor has the upper hand. I'm always thinking about the way Vox looked at the screens on his office when Alastor took them over, and the way Alastor was able to hurt Vox when he was connected to that watch.
And, like, the most sexual he's gotten was cheering for Alastor to get wrecked by Adam "I am so hard right now!" while hip thrusting. Loser. And then calling Alastor beaten up and bloody "better than sex!" That television loves violence, and he wants to see Alastor destroyed. If he can't defeat Alastor himself, he will settle on watching someone else do it.
Well, and I suppose the scene kissing Valentino could be seen as sexual! I perhaps think it's his relationship with Val that makes him seem allosexual? His jealousy towards Angel Dust, his desire to be with Valentino. People can't imagine their partnership without sex (I'm including me in this). But of course, as shippers love to say: ace people can still have sex :P and aros can be in relationships :P
I do think! If I were to be extra mean. I do think it's a prioritization of romantic/sexual feelings as The Most Important Thing. As though to say, how can Vox be so obsessed with Alastor if he's not in love? Which is just kinda boring to me. And why I dislike RadioSilence more and more every day. Maybe I'm just far too aro myself, but romance is not the most important thing ever, and in fact stories (and ships) are so much more interesting when it's not!
