Thanks! and yes! Those books were instrumental in increasing my understanding of what it meant to grow up in the US during every time period imaginable and how where you came from and what you looked like and your gender and class all played into that. Certainly covered some gaps that primary school wasn’t filling, and made for thrilling, fascinating, and poignant reads.

ill probably make a total idiot of myself but who is he and what did he do?

“who is he” exactly. he’s completely irrelevant and unimportant. but, he said some incredibly racist and sexist things (here and here) and then sent out some half-assed apology when he was called out and started blocking everyone who was calling him racist.
