I’m coughing, my throat itches, and I’m working from home while in quarantine, but it’s Fire Friday so here’s to little lights.
I miss fire so much that I’ve been pinch-extinguishing candles in my apartment.
However, I will not be eating fire again until this plague passes. Fire eating is not great for the lungs and immune system, it’s inherently risky, and I don’t want to do anything that might stretch first responders and hospital staff even further when they’re already at the breaking point. For now, candles will have to do.
“What matters most is how well you walk through the fire.” — Charles Bukowski
Due to Covid-19, gigs in NYC and a lot of other places are cancelled until A Mystery Time. It’s definitely good that venues are being proactive in trying to slow the spread, but it is going to financially devastate a lot of performers and venue staff. (I’m lucky to have a stable, well-paying day job with benefits. A lot of people depend on their gigs to make rent, though.) So mainly this is a call to be extra kind to people in nightlife, food service, retail, etc.
“Do not worry if all the candles in the world flicker and die. We have the spark that starts the fire.” — Rumi
Fire Friday
Still the queen of the horizontal extinguish, mainly because I’m contrary (and what have my sinuses done for me lately, anyway), and because most other fire eaters aren’t willing to do this one. Don’t try this at home, lovelies.
