Hey remember that inktober I did of Emile? Well I colored it. I literally cannot find any fanart of him anywhere so I will fix that. I love him way more than I should, and that’s probably not helped by the fact he looks terrifyingly similar to my favorite Xenoblade character. I really hope he becomes playable one day. But then again I think I already explained all of that in the inktober version. Do not steal/repost/remove credit etc.

Finally got around to doing an inktober piece (yes I’m not dead I just do most of my stuff on Twitter these days), so here’s Emile in a Halloween costume based on the generic fiend sprite and his normal outfit for an alt I thought up for him as a shadow wand user. (Not that he can actually properly use magic. He just creates a giant shadow mana explosion and prays he doesn’t get caught in it) I really didn’t want to like Emile. But after chapter 4 I just gave up and now I’m going to lead the Emile protection squad. Also the fact that he looks like a certain god from Xenoblade Chronicles that happens to be my favorite character pretty much secured his place as my favorite character in Dragalia Lost. I was really hoping Emile would come around and join Euden/MC or at least join up because he gets into trouble with the Empire or whatnot but nope. He gets reduced to a paralogue villain. And after he gets this reveal of how much he’s suffering from an inferiority complex, it kind of hurt to have that be his fate, but at least every scene with him is still a joy. I will admit I do legitimately sympathize with him. I have a younger brother who is a paragon compared to me. Brilliant student, plenty of friends, super nice, better score than me on the SAT, surpassed me in tennis by lightyears, and can juggle his school work and personal life way better than I can. He used to actually look up to me and was pretty meh at what he did. Not so much anymore and I feel like I’m constantly getting compared to him. Coupled with the fact I do have an inferiority complex myself, this really does not do my sense of self worth any favors. I can only imagine what Emile went through having 4 other older than him setting the bar extremely high then his younger brother just leaping ahead of him almost out of nowhere. The horrible things Emile has done are likely a result of him just not able to properly express his feelings of inadequacy. I know I struggle with that a lot too. It doesn’t excuse his actions, but it certainly makes them make sense instead of them being random acts. Maybe one day he’ll be playable. I hope so. I just want him to have some resolution.

I used that alternate rim lighting technique again and I feel like it’s a little sloppy this time around but it looks really cool either way. I should brush up on my line art in general if I’m going to use this technique.
