AWESOME NEWS !!!!
WE DID IT!!! We can fix Bruno’s house!
and by we, I mean YOU awesome people, thank you SO much, for spreading the word and doing this big thing for my friend. This is so great. He’s gonna be so stoked. He’s been so down lately that it’s really gonna brighten his day.
Men anpil, chay pa lou. Many hands make the load lighter. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(ps. if you were gonna donate but didn’t get the chance, please still do! Bruno is part of ACFFC, an arts program in Haiti that provides food, education and art instruction for at-risk kids and young adults in Jacmel. Any money raised beyond our goal will help other emergency needs like this one that come up in the program! Go team!)
hi tumblr i need your help with a thing
this is my friend Bruno:
Bruno is one of the best humans I know. He’s a soft-spoken sweetie-pie, he’s hilarious, and he’s an incredible artist. He has planned an entire screenplay about a Haitian voodoo vampire. I love this dude.
Like a lot of low-income people in Jacmel, Bruno lives in a plywood home. He has tricked it out with his art, and magazine cut-outs and newspaper clippings and made it his own. But it’s still plywood, and eventually plywood rots.
Today Bruno came to ask for me for help because his house is rotting. We took a carpenter out to his place and it will literally only cost $160 to repair his house!!! That’s it! And then his house is safe from the rain and sun! If I had the money I’d pay it all in a heartbeat, but I’m a volunteer and haven’t earned a paycheck in several months.
Let’s fix my Bruno’s house! I’ll kick in $50! Please help! My friend deserves to live in dignity!
ps - any money we raise beyond the cost of repairing his house will go toward ACFFC’s on-site fund for emergencies/unforeseen complications like this one. there are definitely other needs like this outside our budget that come up almost every day, so exceeding this goal would be awesome!!
Moving Up: Big Changes For The ACFFC in Jacmel, Haiti!
Random Acts first partnered with the Art Creation Foundation for Children (ACFFC) in 2011. By 2012, we had learned that the nonprofit and children’s center would likely lose its rented home in Jacmel, Haiti due to the building’s failing structural integrity and safety concerns and decided to lend a hand where we would. At the time, however, we couldn’t have guessed that a commitment to providing a down-payment on a new building would turn into a nearly four-year (and counting) unbreakable friendship.
Today, we’re happy to announce that the ACFFC—which was originally founded back in 2003… (that’s a lot of years and a lot of work!)— has moved on to a brand new space, for which we were able to assist with two-year’s worth of rent. To top it off, our partnership has allowed for the ACFFC to also open a storefront space as well, giving older artists a place to work and a new location to sell the children and teen’s beautiful works of art.
Head over to our blog and find out how your generous donations played a vital role in our very special partnership with the ACFFC — and feel free to check out their official website too!
