Not the only place I’ve seen this. It’s OK, I wasn’t going to use a $100 note to buy my pre-dinner cake at #EuropaCakeShop #AclandSt #StKilda (at Europa Cake Shop) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch4GhLarX8w/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A pleasant entry walk to two apartment buildings on #AclandSt #StKilda. ‘Acland Hill’ is a noteworthy early Modernist design, 1939, by Arthur Plaisted (though possibly by another designer temporarily in his office, as he was in the middle of picturesque Old English!). The pilottis step around a large covered area towards the street: what was this for? (at Acland Street, St Kilda) https://www.instagram.com/p/CWt0YxxBANc/?utm_medium=tumblr

Halcyon #AclandSt #StKilda, 1886, apparently designed by Frederick de Garis & Son. “One of the most sophisticated surviving examples of the many opulent buildings erected in St Kilda during Melbourne’s boom” (heritage citation). The Gothicky lancets formed by the lacework are repeated in the vestibule’s plasterwork, strange in such an exuberantly Italianate building. We stayed behind in #AclandSt #StKilda to have cake at one of the 4 famous Eastern European cake shops. We chose #LeBonCakes; one cake was delicious, one not, the coffee not great, but nice to see that they serve mincing fruit tarts 😉 (at Le Bon Cakes) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSPC65DAqx8/?utm_medium=tumblr
