Well done! I’m glad that people do this because we do need to find a way to preserve as much physical media as possible - especially physical games as there won’t be a physical option come January 2028 - and for that reason I don’t consider it hording. This is preservation.

I don’t think I will do a complete collection myself because honestly I just don’t have the room for it.

But I will absolutely buy the games I want to play and want to preserve and honour as they’re good games and I’m coming to an end on that I think. Plus I only have one DVD/CD rack that will hold only 50 games.

However, I think that will be around about the amount I actually want to play myself so I think that works out for me in collecting GameCube games. 50 games is great.

I am also trying to find only the black label editions of the games and no player’s choice or special editions.

The only outlier I have in that is the Wind Waker limited two-game disc edition that includes the previous Zelda games in the franchise as well as the Master Quest of Ocarina Of Time which I’ve never played as it’s too hard and I don’t like difficult games because I have no skills.

Spider-Man 2 is easily the best game out of all of them.

It’s no secret that Insomniac perfected all the web-swinging and the combat moves but they did base that off of Spider-Man 2. Like the foundation for Insomniac’s Spider-Man games are from Raimi’s Spider-Man 2.

I’ve probably said this before but what really makes Spider-Man 2 (and Spider-Man to some degree) is Bruce Campbell’s narration and commentary. Like every other voice actor in the game doesn’t come close to what Campbell offers with his signature sarcasm and snark. That man just understood the assignment 100%.

It’s enjoyable to play this game just to listen to him. He makes it far more entertaining than it actually is beyond the improved mechanics of web-swinging and combat.

I really recommend people go back and play Spider-Man 2 because it truly is a great game. I’m glad that I got it for my GameCube. I’m very excited to replay it.

There are 3 Prince Of Persia games on the Nintendo GameCube including the highly regarded Sands Of Time. Dude… Prince Of Persia was Assassin’s Creed before Assassin’s Creed. Best believe I’m going to get every single one of those games in the best possible condition I can. I want to play those games so badly.

Say what you want about Ubisoft but they know how to make great action-adventure games. I believe POP was more puzzle-oriented than AC ever was. That’s exciting.

I love puzzles in video games as long as they’re not too difficult to figure out and complete. Zelda-like puzzles.

I think my preference with video games is like a mix of open world RPG/action-adventure/platformer/arcade.

Anything that requires me to navigate the environment I tend to really find very engaging because it immerses me into the world building and character development.

This explains why the GameCube is my favourite era of gaming. It’s because it just focuses completely on the experience and doesn’t try to throw flash in my face. I really don’t care about graphics and better visual/audio.

I just want the performance to be as great as it can be which doesn’t necessarily mean FPS boosts although that helps - but it’s the mechanics. It’s how you play.

The GameCube excelled at this in almost every single way you can even think of. There’s so many great and innovative games both first party and third party. And the very fact that I do not have to sit through insanely ridiculously long software downloads of installs, day one patches and updates before playing is just bonus.

So I will be looking forward to playing all these Prince Of Persia games when I get my GameCube set up the way I want it. I still have a few more accessories and games to be delivered but I’m nearly there. I truly do recommend everyone to get into retro gaming and to discover older released games on older consoles that had none of that always online/one ecosystem rubbish.

So I’ve bought 35 GameCube games. 25 of them have been delivered so far. I have another 15 games to come.

I’ll show off my collection once they’re all delivered.

I’ve bought a few that are outside my region. They were never released in the UK or anywhere in Europe. With a modded GameCube I can access them and play them.

Modded GameCubes bypass all the region locks to play PAL, NTSC and JPN so they’re still worth having in my collection. I don’t think there are many more games I’ll want to be honest so I think my GameCube venture as far as buying games go is coming to an end thankfully.

So for my Nintendo GameCube venture I have spent a whopping £1,260.75. My PS5 sell was £505.40. So I have spent an extra £755.35.

I know that seems absolutely crazy. But hear me out. It really isn't.

All GameCube stuff is going up in value. So if there's ever a time that I think I want to sell it all or I need to make money at some point, this will net me way over £1,500 because it will all be appreciated by that point due to scarcity and high demand. That's if I ever want to part with it.

I don't think I'll want to because this little cube will bring me great joy.

As it always has done since I was a child and I should have never let go of the one I had as a child. Or perhaps it broke or something. I really can't remember. Add in the new mods to jailbreak the system as well as HDMI HD picture resolution and sound - this venture is well worth it.

I would recommend everyone that enjoys video gaming to get into retro gaming and go back to the gaming consoles that didn't have you locked into an ecosystem, didn't have price variance based on buying habits and didn't force you out of your consumer rights and choices.

Everybody should just go backwards in their gaming, not forwards because it's backwards where we have the control, not the companies.

I still have my XBOX Series X and my Nintendo Switch 2. For now I'll keep them until Microsoft and Nintendo attempt to do the same as Sony has done. At that point - I will not hesitate to sell my consoles.

I want to enjoy my gaming experiences and find new freedoms with it.

Not feel like I'm locked in and everything is being taken from me little by little - which is how modern gaming these days makes me feel as I do not have the same freedoms or choices as I do with retro gaming.

This Nintendo GameCube retro gaming venture is expensive, yes.

But so is modern gaming and yet I feel like I have a lot less power.

I'd rather it be expensive and have all the power and control over it than have it be expensive and have nothing at all. Not even basic ownership.

This makes sense to me. It makes more sense to me than anything else regarding video gaming right now actually. So that's why I'm doing it. I believe everyone else should too if they enjoyed video gaming in the past and probably missed out on a lot just like I have. It's more than nostalgia. It's honouring video gaming history, legacy and culture and with that being threatened right now by the video gaming publishers...

Best believe I'm going to go into retro gaming as hard and fast as I can.

I don't care what it costs. This means far too much to me to not shell out for.

To not both financially and morally support. I believe this is what we have to do now as gamers and as lovers of all TV art/entertainment.
