Being short had its disadvantages but Dani tried to make the best of it. She stood on a step-stool behind the counter and hoisted herself up with a grin. There was a man with black hair and eyes as blue as hers standing at the counter. “Hi, are you checking in?”

“Damon! Those brownies were for the bake sale.” Elena ran her hands through her hair on the verge of pulling it out. “Please don’t tell me you were the one who ate them all.”

Perhaps it was just space she had been staring off into but it was so much more. There was a vacant stare in her eyes, it was like she wasn’t entirely there. Visions of a red dragon looming over a castle, roaring in her ears. She was standing on hard ground with a lake of lava in front of her and on the lake were rows of black stepping stones that lead to the castle and try as she might to move a muscle, she couldn’t for she was frozen in fear of the dragon.

She had to get away. Backpack slung over her shoulder as she stood at the bus stop, not wanting to turn back. Mariah gripped the strap since it was her only source of comfort at the moment. Not far from her stood a man with a diamond shaped face, lengthy black hair, and piercing blue eyes. He certainly stood out from the rest. Perhaps it was his distinct features or the fact he was wearing mostly dark colors. Either way, he set off bad vibes to her and she wasn’t about to talk to him.
Chewing anxiously on her lower lip, she impatiently waited for the bus to show up.

He was dark and mysterious as the clichéd description goes but it was appropriate. There was a sense of uncertainty in her and perhaps a touch of fear. Gathering up her things, she rose from the spot she sat on the ground and hoped she could get away without him noticing her.
