you know this boy . not directly , or anything —— georgie hasn’t spoken a word to katsuki since he first moved into town . it’s less because he believes the hushed whispers derry’s adults like to exchange , suggesting his crimson eyes indicate the boy’s some sort of devil spawn , and more due to the rampant rumours that he’s a bully with a penchant for hurting other children in a fit of rage . ava often scoffs that he’s a baby bowers in the making , and caleb easily shares such dismissive sentiment . his mom and dad barely allow him to play with ava - the devil kid ? forget it .
georgie stops short of reaching to take the last batman comic off the shelves , jolting as katsuki speaks out to him , and turns .
he’s a tiny bit affronted by such an accusation , and huffs sharply to demonstrate as much . “ well , i’m not . ” child quickly corrects his newfound company , and at first , that’s all he plans to say . already he can feel eyes boring into him … the both of them , really . moms accompanying their own little boys , buying this week’s comic book for them , are all casting glances their way . furtive , judgemental things that make his skin c r a w l unpleasantly …
but for the wrong reason . wrong in derry’s eyes , anyway ; georgie should be concerned with what they’ll think of him for engaging with katsuki . or “ the new kid , ” the kindest way he’s ever heard the other boy described . but he’s not . naive child can only wonder idly how grown ups can be so hateful , and awful , and consider how no one is allowed to be — or wants to be — katsuki’s friend .
“ ... how do i look stinky , anyways ? think you mean smell , ” lighthearted quip , and despite his reservations , georgie cracks an impish smile . the comic’s snatched up and he regards katsuki properly , now . doe eyes rest upon the blond warm , and playfully bright . “ i’m george , george denbrough . my friends call me georgie , though . um - who’re you , then ? ”
asked as if he doesn’t already know . he does - but only what the shittiest people from this shitty town have been whispering , and he doesn’t want to lead with the gossip they’ve made known to him . he’d rather hear it from kat .
