Action Ink Tattoo in Taunton, MA.
I just want to give a heads-up to the tattoo/piercing community in general, but especially those in southeastern Massachusetts, in regard to Action Ink out of Taunton.
DO NOT GO HERE TO GET A TATTOO OR A PIERCING OF ANY KIND.
#1: They are extremely unprofessional. The primary piercer there is INCREDIBLY rude and makes hideously inappropriate comments, including sexually harassing customers, bitching endlessly if someone takes a minute or two to choose their jewelry, and if you're a woman? He'll inform you that it's because women are stupid and weak and that you should have made up your fucking mind before you came in. Despite, you know, not having visual access to their current stock of jewelry. I mean God, what kind of dumb bitch ARE you?
#2: I have heard endless horror stories about people getting piercings that became infected there. Normally I would chalk this up to poor after-care, but when it happens at least 50% of the time out of one parlor? Their metal quality is clearly lacking. Not to mention, several friends of mine in the modded community have told me that the piercers there do not mark their target entry point with a pen the way they should, and that the rooms themselves in which the piercings are done are filthy.
#3: One story in particular stands out to me, and has been confirmed by two people at least, about a 16-year-old girl who went in with her mother to get her navel pierced. First, the mother was told that no one but the piercer and the piercee were allowed in the room (they do this with all women, but apparently not men), and the piercer complained loudly about what a "dumb slut" the daughter was when she hesitated. She lost her nerve when the door was locked (there is no reason any tattoo artist or piercer should ever need to lock you in a room with them! When Steve at Darkstar did my most recent work, the door was wide open and tattooing apprentices came in and out to watch him work, after asking if it was all right with me.) She asked to be let out, and was told that they wouldn't let her go until she got pierced. She started to cry and shouted for her mother, who came and pounded on the door and threatened to call the police, allegedly. After this, they were allowed to leave.
#4: Yes, piercings are cheap at Action Ink. This is because they use cheap materials and they know how terrible their reputation is. It's not worth it, go to Lords & Damsels or Darkstar, the extra $15 you'll spend are more than worth it. Famous Tattoos in Dartmouth is also shaping up to be a nice little place!
#5: I tried to go Action's website to see if they had any kind of explanation posted for any of these incidents, in the interest of fairness? Turns out their website is so loaded with malware and viruses that will damage your computer that my firewall and Google won't even let me access it. AS IF THEY COULDN'T GET ANY SHADIER.
