The Introduction and its Background
Today, students are busy. We have paper works to be submitted, we have projects to be done, we have meetings to be attended, parties to be organized, everything that makes the student busy. But when will we have a rest day? When everything’s okay? Of course, when they still have time to rest. When everything is organize. Organized students know how to do things in a given time. But how about to those who are not organized? Do they still have their time to rest?
They say, that Time management is the ability to plan and control how you spend the hours in your day to effectively accomplish your goals. Poor time management can be related to procrastination, as well as problems with self-control. Skills involved in managing your time include planning for the future, setting goals, prioritizing tasks, and monitoring where your time actually goes. (Time managent. (2014) Retrieved from http://www.psychologytoday.com/basics/time-management). Being on the competitive school, Time Management should have the best strategy that we have to apply in our lives just to be organized. It must be timely effective and efficiently working. But how about me? I can’t do such things?
I, as a student, I have a habit which we may call as Mañana Habit. I always do the things before the deadline, for instance. For me, it has good and bad effect. First, it makes my brain do the rush-thinking, and second, I overthink too much because thinking that the deadline is approaching, which makes me physically and mentally weak. Since I am weak already, my favorite pastime is to always check my accounts on Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites. I am fond of checking my account so that leaves the outcome why I think I’m busy, tasks are delayed and it comes that I always have tons of things to be done. Not productive. Not organized.
Managing our time properly will make ourselves in prim and will include us to be successful, and competent. Time should not be wasted, but must use in a very intelligent way.
So here, in my research, my goal is to have a better, managing time effectively and efficiently.
How will I have a better time-management?
I made three roots of my problem:
Doing unnecessary things by which may obstruct the things to be accomplished.
Absent-minded/pre-occupied
Regarding about the root of the problem, I also made solutions about it.
1.b. Keep away the things that makes me distracted.
2.a. Always have an alarm to remind myself to the things that I should do
2.b. Jot down notes and bring them most of the time
3.a. Give myself a task-reward deal.
3.b. Give yourself a motivation
I was willing to change my bad habits. I changed my lifestyle and simply took thing step by step from the first solution up to last. It was hard for me, because I think it is.
1.a. Focus. I kept on concentrating myself what things should be done. And this is what I focused for: To solve my problem.
1.b Keep away the things that makes me distracted. I kept my gadgets which made myself pre-occupied. I gave my gadgets to my Dad and he kept it to his drawer. No communications for two weeks!
2.a Always have an alarm to remind myself to the things that I should do. Although it’s hard for me to wake up, but I made my alarm more loud so that I could hear it ringing. It was kinda wise because since it’s on a timer/alarm, it gave me a time span just to finish my chores. Quite challenging.
2.b. . Jot down notes and bring them most of the time. So far, I bought a mini notebook where I could write the things I should do. I also made a checklist.
3.a. Give myself a task-reward deal. Incentives. It’s kind of expensive because first, I bought stuffs as reward for this solution. I was hard for me because it was vacation, no allowance. In addition, even if I haven’t accomplish a task, I claim it already.
3.b. Give yourself a motivation. I used this research as my motivation. Why am I writing this? I thought of it more than once and I always kept on telling myself that this is my requirement in ENGL1023. That this is important because it helps me to understand and to solve my problem.
Our professor gave us two weeks in applying the solution and made a journal about it whether it is effective or not. I studied my journal and made a critical understanding about the solutions I’ve applied and here is the table showing that data about their effectiveness.
1.b. Keep away the things that makes me distracted. Effective.
2.a. Always have an alarm to remind myself to the things that I should do. Effective.
2.b . Jot down notes and bring them most of the time. Effective
3.a. Give myself a task-reward. Not effective
3.b. Give yourself a motivation. Effective
Time-Management is not about managing time. It should be planned wisely, it must understand it’s possible outcome and must understand its essence. It needs not just a short period of time but a long process by which I could carry it for the future. So far, I’ve known that, In my hypotheses, I have those three (Doing unnecessary things by which may obstruct the things to be accomplished. I am Absent-minded/pre-occupied and lazy), and I am continuing to undergo a process just not to have my problem back.
This study is recommended for those who are willing to improve their time-management skills, students that are busy, professors that have papers to be checked, everyone. Everyone who wants change about their proper managing of their time.
