We needed an origin term that described us. So we made one.
There is not much of a mixed origins/polygenic/multigenic plural community. Whether this is because these terms are unknown or there just aren't many polygenic systems is unknown to us, but we do identify as polygenic... Somewhat.
We ID as polygenic, but mainly as traumagenic, because that's what we know started our system. We are in a weird area where our origins as a system are definitely one thing (trauma), but some of our members have different origins on a personal level (weren't formed from that trauma). It's like you build a house for a family that's in the cold and then others starting calling the house their home, too. The vagueness of "polygenic," and the limiting implications of just "traumagenic,"* just did not work for us.
*many people have the mistaken belief that if your system formed due to one cause, all headmates have to have the same origin. This misconception is partly due to how this is how it works for most systems. It circles back to there not being a large mixed origins community.
So here's our system flag and term: isoscegenic!
[ID: two matching flags with seven stripes, one with text and one without. The colors of these stripes, from top to bottom, are: indigo, cerulean, cyan, sandy tan, orange, strawberry red, and burgundy. The text on the second image, with one line per stripe, are as follows: one main system origin; not fitting perfectly into origin communities; spiritual and purposeful origins; communication and hope for plural acceptance; natural, spontaneous, and trauma origins; complexity due to being polygenic; differing origins among headmates. / End ID]
The definition of isoscegenic is: a system that has one primary origin/cause for its formation, but also has a few members that don't have the same origin as the system as a whole. For example, a system that may have formed through trauma, but later in life created a few thoughtforms on purpose or had a few spiritual walk-ins.
The term was inspired by "polygenic," which isoscegenic systems can also ID as. "Poly" makes us think of polygons, which made us think of isosceles triangles!
It's pronounced eye-soss-uh-genic
Maybe one day there will be a larger multigenic community, and this term will be used more often. For now, we don't mind if we are the only ones to use this term, because it is important to us and accurately describes our gray area between endogenic and traumagenic. We're isoscegenic.
Edit: we've made this correction before, but wanted to add it to the original post. When we said "natural systems", we meant systems who have been systems from birth and/or systems who have unknown/mystery origins. We just couldn't think of the words at the time. Our bad!
Hello! I don't want to take up too much of your time, so I'll keep this brief.
For a while now, I have been working on an introduction to plurality to help explain the concept to singlets, as well as make it easier for systems to come out as plural. I have many of the basics down, but now I would like feedback from the community.
What topics would you like to see covered in an introduction to plurality? Send me an ask, message, or reblog this post to answer. Furthermore, are there any questions you feel would fit a "FAQ" section of this text? Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Something to note is that although the document largely focuses on traumagenic systems as that is the part of the plural community given most focus and thus what singlets are most likely to have heard of before, there is a section dedicated solely to covering endogenic systems and I would love it if any endogenic systems could advise me on what to add here. It would help a lot!
I'll end this here so as to not clog up your dash. Signal boosting is appreciated!
