When I was younger I didn't like many female characters and it was never explicitly because they were female or even for any conscious reason. You don't have to like every female characters, but you do have to examine why people feel such vitriol or even just disinterest in female characters as opposed to male characters. And yeah, there's issues with how female characters are written and developed, but there's also amazing female characters that audiences hate.
Yes, THAT was what I was trying to say. You have to check your own motivation. And yes. Whether writers do a good job or not, fandom invariably turns on female characters.

eeeexactly. and maybe even appreciate that they DO make some not great choices because hey, wow, they're imperfect human beings! if they're not making great choices all the time it probs means they're well-written chars!
