ADAD Assessment #3
FINAL WORK
Artist Statement (250 words)
My intention of appropriating Seurat’s artwork is to convey and emphasis the repetition of techniques, curvy lines and shapes (figures and umbrellas) that he incorporated in his artwork, however, in my final work I took on a modern approach through the use of photoshop. My final artwork consists of the repetition of brushstrokes which I had used to create both types of trees. The repetition of dots is highlighted through the use of bright contrasting colours. The repetition of layers I took into my final artwork is depicted through the different frames in the video where a new layer of change is implemented. As opposed to Seurat creating layers on canvas, I approached it in a way to create the layers (28) on photoshop to emphasis the high usage of technology in today’s society. I also wanted to highlight the repetition of lines and shapes to create form and images. After saving a copy of each layer that later accumulated towards the final artwork, I then I used an app to create a stop motion/gif video to display the repetition of layers. My main inspiration is ‘A Sunday on La Grande Jatte’ by Georges Seurat. Seurat began with a layer of small horizontal brushstrokes of complementary colours, then later added a layer of small dots. The repetition of curvy lines created rhythm in his artwork making it very interesting to look at and balanced. The repetition of techniques both digitally and physically play a big part in my final artwork.
