CPR eastbound #40 "Atlantic Limited" (Montreal to St. John) continues on past me, into the dusk towards its destination. Less than three years later, I would have the privilege of occupying this marker-bedecked sleeping car (or one like it) and riding in the dome, on my way to Newfoundland.

CPR eastbound #40 "Atlantic Limited (Montreal to St. John) passes flagstop shelter. That white wooden board could be set by a waiting passenger to alert the engine crew that someone wanted to board at this "flagstop"; many stations used a flag that could be waved by the passenger or by an agent/operator if one is on duty. As George Pitarys said the schedule called for a 1923 showing (thanks, George!) and in the middle of August this was getting to be dusk. No one was there to flag him down, but although George said there were high speeds possible on this stretch, I don't recall the speed. Almost three years later I would enjoy riding the full length of this train's run, and I know that once we were out in the suburbs of Montreal, the engineer cracked the whip!
